Disable auto updates for all games
hi im trying to find the setting to disable auto updates for all games, im on a metered connection and dont have data spare. witcher 3 wanting to auto update and use 300mb of data is annoying. when i click downloads it says auto updates enabled at top right but gives me zero options to disable it. So how do i disable all auto updates for games? plus it can ruin save game data

yea only issue is its not disabling auto updates... i leave my PC on at night to do rendering work. and sometimes accidentally leave steam open so ill wake up and have like a few gigs of updates sometimes which is adds up. i just don't get why they don't have a disable all updates option. forced updates suck
You cannot disable updates, you can only delay them by choosing to Only update when you launch it or Wait till i launch it. Developers however can set (if they choose to) to allow you to use beta branches so you can stay on the version of your choice which stops auto updating via right click game > properties > betas.

As for the Witcher 3 it is drm free therefore you create a desktop shortcut from the game exe and run it from there, not Steam.

Which is self inflicted especially when you know you have a metered connection.

I had a metered connection in the past and managed it across all the PC clients i had installed.

dont blame me, blame steam for not allowing the option:steamhappy: are you a steam employee?

Why did you sign up for a service that works with automatic updating? The only one to blame then is yourself.

You can use the workarounds, that's it. Don't expect this to change, Steam is build around the core principle of automatic updating. I s even literally stated like that in the Steamworks documentation.

That you didn't read it is on you.

t's not "victim" blaming when the "damage" is self inflicted anyway.

It's fine to ask for an option. It's fine to want an option. It's not fine to lash out because you realised you signed up for a service that doesn't work the way you want it.
I wouldn’t call this lashing out at all? Just calmly asking for a a simple not harmful option to be added that’s all. Your the one lashing out here 😂 did you read your entire EULA when joining Disney plus? Because we’ll you can’t sue them if you die at Disney world now settle down man it’s an settings option many would like 😂

Simple find another ISP Solution, ( size and DL has expanded into high-end graphic,

There is no way i and other can help with things they are made today, but feel free to play past gen game that was under 25gb. in total installation size, ( i and other has not explan this way before but now we need to, i doubt any app can help you with bandsize per month anymore then things almost double per 5 years in installation size. and patches in top of this.

Also why the other helper do say what they do. ( enough is enough with try stop update then you can't.)

You need to live in a remote location or moutain if you dont have other option then 1 or 2 ISP in your region.

Asking someone who gives a different answer to be a "steam employee" can be considered "lashing out", yes. It's an unnecessary implication you try to give via that.

It's the consumers responsibility to read such things. Not reading them doesn't change what's in them, after all.

That said, had you used the search function you'd seen that this is something that has been asked for since Steam came to be. And since auto updating is a core principle as Valve states it, that won't change anytime soon.

Sadly ISPs have a monopoly in my area only one option and it’s metered :( I usually go to my friends house when a new game comes out to download it
