Returning the Regular Edition after Buying the Ultimate Edition
TL;DR: I've bought regular version of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, then the ultimate edition after some time. It said "You won't get a second copy of Life is Strange: Double Exposure" on cart while buying the second one. Now I have the ultimate edition, but since I don't have a second copy of the game, what's going to happen when I request to return the game that came with my first purchase?

___
Hello,

I've purchased Life is Strange: Double Exposure few months ago and I've decided to buy the ultimate edition yesterday and today I did. Because I love this series a lot I couldn't wait to refund the first one and I thought "Ok, I can return the first one after I buy the ultimate edition."

It says "You won't get a second copy of Life is Strange: Double Exposure" on cart. Now I have the ultimate edition, but since I don't have a second copy of the game, what's going to happen when I request to return the game that came with my first purchase?

I've created a refund request for the first one then I went to see the receipt of the second purchase, It says "You have a refund request for this item." for both of them. I've canceled the request and sent a message to support.

What do you think?

You'll be left with DLC and no base game in which to play it. Cancel your refund request. You'll just have to rebuy it should it get approved.

Thank you for your reply. What if I request to return them all, then after I confirm I've returned both of them, I could buy only the ultimate edition? Could that be a good idea?

you made the purchase a few months ago, you are well outside the refund window and unlikely to get a refund now.

refund policy - less then 2 hours playtime AND owned less then 2 weeks.
a few months is way past refunding, steam has sent the money to the developer months ago.

Oh, I forgot about that part. :/ So I basically paid 109.98 USD for 69.99 USD content. This is sad.

"Per Steam’s standard refund policy, you may refund your pre-order any time prior to the release of the game.

If the pre-order was purchased more than 6 months ago, you may not be able to refund back to your original payment method. However, you may still request a credit to your Steam Wallet."

Turns out I could return and get a refund for my first purchase, it's actually accepted and Steam support said returning the first purchase won't affect the ultimate edition.

Still, I'll wait and see if I do or don't have the base game when it's the date of early access.

I hope this is still accurate. I just submitted a refund for a game I pre-ordered in August. Really hope it goes through....

Good luck with your refund btw. That's an awkward situation.

+ what if you save the game with new Ultimate Edition this mean old version will not like or game save will not load,

game DLC added and remove can have consequence of this, unless you have save game from before you did this.

ps.
many skyrim user have learn this, this is not that simple in save game files.

Yes, it's still accurate. I assume your game isn't released yet, so you haven't played it?

I'm not sure, but since none of them are released yet this won't be a problem in my case.

sorry about my first reply, I was unaware that you were talking about a game that was a pre order. My response was based on the information provided, and I didnt check to see what the status was for a game. If this was a game that was already release, my answer would be accurate.

Yeah, it doesn't come out for another 5 months(and could be delayed again for all I know.)

But I just woke up and logged back on and I see that it went through as the refund is now pending. Woohoo. :)
