Account's names, is it the owener's name or the name of the "channel"?
Hi, i'm trying to think a name for a new account name, and i wanted to know one thing:

The account name indicates the owener's name, or the name of the "channel"?
I ask this because u should put as account's name, for example:

1. if it indicates a channel's name = videogames_of_cloud (for example)
2. if it indicates the owener's name = cloud

I think it indicate the owener's name, because if you go to account details, on the top of the page, u can read: "videogames_of_cloud's account", but lol, isnt that english wrong? (i'm not good at english, but that should be wrong, if i'm right)

Thank you for resps :)

Ty, but wait, i knew these stuffs already :p
i was speaking only about account/login name, yes that1 u cant change;
I wanted to know if the account name was referred to the owener's name, or the account's name, because the two things are differents, one thing is the name of the owener of the account, and another thing is the name of the account, the two things arent the same thing.
And steam does confusion on this, because for example i can put as account's name: "caveofvideogames" but as owener's account name it isnt possible, infact if u put a name like that and then u go to "account details" you'll read on top of the page "caveofvideogames's account" and that sounds so bad lol.
So steam on some part refer the account name to the owener's acc. name, while on others parts it refer to the account's name, but isnt the same exact thing.
If you created your account then you're the owner. If you purchased it then owner can recover it

You using different terms to refer to the same thing.

On Steam, you have two names for your account:
1) account name - this is private that only you should know and cannot change
2) profile name - this is a publicly viewable name and can be changed to any thing at any time.

Everywhere on Steam that you have something publicly viewable, such as your Profile page, any screenshots or artwork you upload, any review you post, etc. will attribute your profile name.

Anything that is strictly account related and not on public display will attribute your account name. Purchases that you make will result in an email receipt to you attributing the account name. When you look at your account details page, it will refer to your account name.

The ACCOUNT name is what you log in with. NO ONE should ever see this. Its only used to log into the account

Your PROFILE name is what's visible on Steam. Everyone can see this. But this cannot be used to log into your account. You 'could' make your profile name the same as your account name, but that would be a pretty bad idea.
It’s funny that even forum answers in the same manner Support does, to keywords or to ‘what is usually asked’ but not to what’s asked in the original post.

You can clearly read in this page’s header that the nickname refers to the person, the owner of the account, and i believe it’s the same anywhere else.

mh ye right, the account name is for sure the "owener's name" so should be "wrong" to call an account for example "caveofvideogames", because that doesnt refer to any owener's name, that seem to refer more to a "channel's name". Do u think the same?

Ye no1 see it, but i do, i care more if i like it, i dont care if others dont like it, so for me doesnt change anything if it isnt public :)
I still don't understand what's your problem. Let's use other words. There are two names.

Login name that you use with a password to enter your account. It's unique, you can't change it, nobody can publicly see it and it's better not to tell it to others. If such a login name is already in use, it cannot be selected. It's used to add funds to your wallet. When you click account details it shows you "Login's" Account details

Nickname is your public name. It's visible for everyone in your profile or in games. A lot of people can have the same nickname

So if you want other login name you should create a new account. If you want other nickname then just edit it

I wanted to say, u cant put any name u want on your account name, if u want to read it correctly, for example, if u put as account name "marks_account", and then u go to the section "account details" on top of the page, u will read this "marks_account's account", lol.
So if u want to see it correctly, u cant put anything u want.

That would be a you issue adding "account" to your login name.

Still, there is no rule as to what the account name should refer to. In my opinion, it should not refer to anything close to the creator, just as with passwords, that would be a security risk.

Don't use the word "account" in any login name, on any service.

That's like using the word password in your password, password1234.
