⚠️Steam Keeps Closing My Tickets Without Answering – Need Clarification
I’ve had multiple support tickets closed without a response, so I’m posting here hoping to get some clarity.

I strongly suspect my account was locked due to a small $0.03 transaction involving a ‘Banana’ game item. However, Steam Support never confirmed or denied this—they just kept closing my tickets without addressing the issue.

To make things worse, they falsely claimed that my account was hijacked, even though there were no unauthorized logins—only my own device. When I pointed this out, they suddenly changed their claim and accused me of being a scammer. They even removed one of my forum posts, saying I was sending phishing links to other users in DMs.

When I asked them for proof, since I never did such a thing, they changed their story again, saying, "Many people scam in this way, so you might be a scammer." Then, they closed my tickets without further explanation.

I need to know:
1. Can small transactions like this trigger an automated account lock?
2. If I sell this item again, will my account get locked again?
3. Why does Steam Support keep changing their story and refusing to provide actual evidence?

If anyone has experienced something similar or knows how to get an actual response, I’d appreciate the help.

will it be helpful if I also post this on Reddit and Twitter? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Is Steam not answering, or are they changing their answers?

Tickets closed without a response is an indicator that your account has been compromised, follow these steps
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key at https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be NOTHING in the APIKEY)

Depends on what you mean by "account lock". The account can have a market restriction if you bought an item that is suspected of being scammed./stolen The restriction will be removed when Valve finishes their investigation. This investigation does not require you to do anything.

2. If I sell this item again, will my account get locked again?
If it's a restriction from purchasing a potentially stolen item, it shouldn't. Either your account had nothing to do with it or your account never regains the ability to use the Market.

3. Why does Steam Support keep changing their story and refusing to provide actual evidence?
Would depend on what is actually being said. Some of the Support tickets seem to be handled scanning for keywords and clicking what the agent thinks is the correct response. Changes to your phrasing can cause them to key on different phrases/words.

And then there's the possibility you're not talking with an actual Steam Support member, in which case the explanation keeps changing because a scammer's giving you the run-around.

Not if your hoping to get an official Valve response. Steam Support only interacts with users through Support Tickets. Anyone claiming to be Support on some other platform is a scammer.

Thank you for your detailed response.

As I mentioned, they changed their answers three times and then stopped replying. In their very first response, they claimed that my main account had been hijacked. Because of this, they reset everything, removed my Steam authenticator, sent a password reset to my email, and unlocked my account. As a result, I now have the usual 15-day trade and market hold that comes with a password reset. They also removed the account lock.

However, when I checked my login history, I saw no other logins on my account. When I asked them for proof, they changed their response. Initially, they accused me of being a scammer without providing any proof of DMs. Along with this accusation, they removed one of my long-standing posts, which had not violated any guidelines—something they hadn’t done when my account was locked or when they first responded with the hijack claim.

When I pressed them for evidence, they had none. Instead, they shifted their explanation, saying that many scammers use similar tactics, so they assumed I was a scammer and locked my account—contradicting their earlier claim that my account had been hijacked.

When I again asked for proof, they failed to provide any. When I requested that my post be restored, they refused, continuing to label me as a scammer without any evidence. As for their original hijack claim, they conveniently abandoned that argument and stuck to their new explanation.

No, I sold a $0.03 banana game item on the community market by matching a buy order. I strongly suspect that their automated system flagged me as a bot or scam account and locked my account—though they never actually claimed this.

I'm fairly certain about this automated system because I’ve experienced a similar situation in the past, and support even confirmed it at that time. Additionally, I've heard from a few other people who had the same experience.

I firmly believe that Steam Support is mishandling my request.
So people are telling your your account was compromised

So Steam Support tells you your account was hijacked

But somehow EVERYONE ELSE is wrong?

Do you want help or did you want someone to just tell you what you wanted to hear

I get why you might think that, but the facts don’t add up. Only I have access to my account, I don’t log into any third-party or phishing sites, and my login history shows no unauthorized devices—only my own. Steam Support never provided any proof of hijacking, and when I pointed that out, they changed their story, first calling me a scammer and then saying my post "might" be a scam. It seems like they’re just covering up their mistake rather than giving me a real answer.
Note "I refuse to acknowledge reality" does not mean "the facts don't add up"

Your account was compromised. EVERYONE says so. Steam the company that SEES ALL YOUR LOGINS says so. Guess who's correct here

Hint: its not you

I believe that’s what it shows in each and every hijack case when users authorize their accounts on phishing websites, because it only tracks the moment they themselves authorize and not the following access to the ‘same’ logon session with a duplicated cookie happening from a different IP. Then you have to rely on other signs and not your ‘clean IP history’.

YOU ARE NOT TALKING TO STEAM SUPPORT
You need to do all the stuff as posted above to secure your account NOW

Done. All clean no issues found

Only see my devices on which I use steam but still done this. Got a password reset mail from steam(yeah original Steam noreply@steampowered.com) and then changed password. Also removed and added steam guard authentication so I now have 15 day trade market hold.

Never generated any API key so yeah it’s still blank on it

(Not trying to sound rude) but Now how and why shall I believe that my account was hijacked and support isn’t mishandling my request?

Yeah I’ve heard many people getting API scammed by logging into third party sites, mostly related to csgo AFAIK. And that’s the reason I never ever logged into any third party website with my account. And that’s makes me more hesitant to believe this supports account hijack claim
Your user account is limited and therefore restricted from using Steam Marketplace.

To be eligible for the Steam Marketplace:
* have a lifetime total of at least 5 USD spent on Steam directly (buying games, software or wallet balance using an external payment method or redeeming a RETAIL wallet card counts. Key activations, gifts and receiving DIGITAL wallet balance do NOT count). You can lose this status if your foreign currency conversion into 5 USD makes you drop below this threshold.
* Have a Steam purchase not younger than 7 days AND not older that 360 days.

This is my alt. I’m talking about my main here which is a non limited account with 10+ steam level. I couldn’t post this from my main because it was locked by steam automated bot due to seling market item for 0.03 cents at that time.
