Mouse slows down after using steam overlay
Like the title says. I often brows the web when im dead in fps games or look up stuff while gaming. Every time I open the steam overlay via shift + tab my mouse slows down in game. Like it really slows down to a point I cant play anymore. For an example if my mouse sensitivity is set to "1" in game, it slows down to like "0.1"
Havent found a fix to it, maybe someone here has a solution
Games steam overlay brakes stuff for me:
Team Fortress 2 - slows down to very very slow speed
Dirt 2.0 - completely stops working

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Unplugged my USB handbrake and shifter, seems to be working okay now, needs more testing though

Same issue here, only a game restart helps
Also, in addition to slow ass sensitivity my keyboard starts acting up in game, it holds an input for a while after I tapped it once
Try... RMB click on the game in Library > Properties > General > In-Game Overlay Data >>> Delete

Try to opt-out of the Beta if you're in it

do you by any chance have some other controller plugged in?

No, I unplugged everything that isn't mouse and keyboard, restarted and made sure no controller drivers are active

I have the same problem, it's driving me crazy
Having the same problem in GTFO. So it's a Steam Overlay issue huh?

yea could be, havent found a solid solution yet, problem did not occur in counter-strike 2

I too started having this issue randomly happen for about 1 month or so. Noticed it on TF2 where I constantly look up players to check if they're suspected cheaters. And yesterday this happened on WH40K: Darktide. I doubt it's any mouse software (I checked) or other app issue.

The steam overlay usage seems to be the common link. If I alt tab everything works fine on windows. It's only within the games that the mouse breaks.

Also, I was using the steam beta. I switched to the stable channel just in case the bug is in the beta (as it tends to be the case).
Experiencing the same in multiple games since 2/14. I am using the beta version. Only solution I've found is to restart the game. I am trying to find reliable reproduction steps to make a bug report. It seems like it happens to me when, while pressing Shift+Tab, moving my mouse and/or interacting with something scrollable like a web browser or my friends list. You guys should also put in bug reports to Steam, posting here probably won't make this reach the right people.

same issue here but with deep rock galactic, seems like its a steam issue. at random times when i use steam overlay and shift tab back into the game my mouse sensitivty drops and i need to relaunch the game to fix it.

edit: i am also on steam beta client, will opt out and see if maybe that fixes it, will need like a day or two to see if it worked or not tho cause its just so random.

2nd edit: havent had my mouse sensitivy change ever since i opt out of steam beta client, this may have been the fix, if i get the bug again ill update.

This is happening to me too. I've had it happen across Lethal Company, Palworld & Satisfactory.

It only slows down the mouse when I'm in "aiming" mode in those games, if I open a menu that gives me a mouse cursor, that speed seemed unaffected.
Okay, so I'm not just crazy. Been playing X4 and jumping into the overlay browser helps answer questions, but noticed afterwards my mouse goes from say 800 DPI to 200 DPI.

And just tested moments ago, the issue is compounded if overlay is opened multiple times after the issue begins.

Forgotten I was even on the Steam Beta, will try RC and test if any difference.
