They want to verify you are the actual owner and creator of the account. Soounds like your account got suspended for unusual activity.

And to be fair, you did not redeem "a lot of CD-keY" on your account. Out of your five games, four of them are free to play.
So, the Metro 2033 game is the only one you could have redeemed with a CD key.

We know this is not the community banned account.

We can't do anything about it.

You will have to talk about this with Steam Support. No one here can do anything about your issue.

Man, who the hell still uses CD key nowadays? Steam is still living in 2012.

Well, actually, the last time i redeemed a product code on Steam was December 27th, 2023. They are still a thing.

Uh, plenty of people. How do you think Humble Bundle gives games, buddy?

Every single redeemable Steam game purchased outside of this platform uses keys.

I think it's pretty dumb of steam to make people buy CD keys outside of steam.

Steam isn't making anyone doing anything. The key resellers sell the keys. And if you mean Steam allows it, so what? How's it hurting you? It doesn't. People go to key resellers because sometimes it's cheaper from them compared to buying it on Steam.

There's a couple of things here, in this case the person actually used a CD to initially install the game, it just happened to use Steam as it's DRM and the CD became redundant as Steam then allows you to download it whenever you want to install it.

Current keys bought from third party sites aren't CD keys calling them that is just a hangover from the days when this was the primary distribution method. As for being forced, nobody does, but I just picked up a daily deal from one that was less than a third of the price it is on Steam (yes it is from a legitimate reseller, not a grey market site, before anybody asks), so there are good reasons to.

So is believing Valve (not steam) makes anyone do anything.

Depends on what you mean by "make people buy".

Steam does not actively try to push people to other shops; I'm pretty sure you know that.

However, the Steam store does, indeed, not always get the bestest deal for a game, especially during large sales. Why is that? It's because they are HUGE, and publishers know that people will buy it anyway.

Also, think about it this way: the Steam store keeps 30%. Other shops can't afford this; I don't know what they charge for selling your stuff, but lets just pretend it's 10%. So, given the same sale price, publishers would get more out of it if someone bought it in that other store -- but, how do they make people go there, instead of the Steam store?

This is how you catch price-sensitive people such as myself: what if they take some of that saved money, and use it to lower the price? That way, they can offer the game slightly cheaper than the Steam store, but still get more out of it. Win-win for both the publisher and the customer.

Steam still doesn't seem to have issues with that, so I'm pretty sure the amount of sales "lost" is neglible for them. to my knowledge, Steam still hands out Steam keys for free, so they definitely have room to make this less attractive.
