Suddenly prompted to confirm game uninstallation?

I wasn't even using Steam (I close it with the Steam->Exit menu option, but it was apparently still running in the background for some reason, which it started doing recently), and suddenly got the confirmation dialog for a game uninstall. I think it was for multiple games, as I don't remember it mentioning a specific title. No games appear to have actually been uninstalled; all of the games I expect to be there are there.

This coincided with my internet connection being briefly disrupted, but I otherwise see no strange behavior. Non-Steam stuff is all normal, my account information hasn't been modified, I don't see any strange purchase/award/etc. activity or notification emails, and there are no unexpected devices authorized on Steam Guard. I also have no API keys and am not using any integrations. Basically, it seems a lot more likely that this is a Steam client bug than a case of being hacked.

Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Is this a known bug? I see one post on r/Steam mentioning a similar issue, but no comments. I'd file a request with Steam support, but there seems to be no suitable category.

No idea but you might want to run Malwarebytes or something similar just to check there are no viruses lurking.

If Internet get DC then many games will exit game client then online, and they dont login at game again, this is know as crash and safe retuen you to client or old games just crash. they did not had them exit to login screen.

Why i have to write this i don't know been this way over 2 decads, plenty of online gamers could have told you that.

A thirdpart online client will be seen as running, and again dont matter if you are in the online game or it MMO client is running. ( i think we take all this for granted, )

ps.
Other issue is pc is not update in all its driver and its VC++ files, so things can hang or get buggy.

Also why you dont see advice in update your pc, we all assume it is.
and yet we see so many BIOS and chipset driver never get fetched at Brand support.

This is pc user problem, its not steam and game devs job to tell us pc user to update our pc's. ( windows update dont count then my pc is updated )

You do understand that uninstall does not mean the same thing as exit don't you? Because nothing you've said has anything to do with them being asked to confirm they want to uninstall a game.

Who cares what you think here anyway, this is not your post, and you also seem to forget all the other issue OP talk about.

and again you have no clue at all what can cause this. and i have to educate you , in how things happends, we are not your educations place, and have to explan you things in how things can happend.

i can go on here for keybord G-keys even mouse has more buttons then we have fingers.
so many ways to make a mistake most dont know about.

and laptop FN keys in top of this.

but hey thats the problem here you think i and other can see what happend at hes pc. we can't, but i can tell you one thinng most here dont belive this happend by itself.

and we are back at crash cause issue with i hit uninstall by mistake then pc was frozen and got lucky with confirmation box did not was accepted.


in the past steam had a cheating was not allowed, i and other stick to that, and even lead other into use such app was also wrong. but thanks for point it out what has moderator to do with it , i just told you this. ( problem here steam might not care anymore, but game devs do. ) and im not so sure game devs will like steam not to care in what steam user do with thirdpart app.

and i keep stick to old steam rules , to avoid give advice in what some steam users might do.
