Restore Game Backup failing on large games

Just updated hard drive and moved from Win 10 to Win 11. Thought I'd back-up my Steam games to make the move easier and faster.

Having some issues with restoring backups though.Seems to be working okay with smaller games. Larger games (e.g. Doom Eternal,HL Alyx) The restore window appears, then after a while Steam shuts down! When I open Steam again the failed restore game is starting to download in the Library! :-/

Any advise? Are my backups shot?

Made some progress. Moved backed-up folders from external drive to desktop and tried restore again. This time it worked. Just done HL Alyx. It's currently validating, which is another 17GB download!! But, at least I'm not downloading the whole game again.

Having the same issue too with The Evil Within. It just won't restore from backup, moved it to my desktop drive as well. I opened a Steam support ticket so hopefully we'll at least get some answers. I'm gonna try a smaller game like FEAR 2 and see if smaller games do indeed work.
