I cannot buy Portal
Hi guys, I rarely use steam so a lot of things are new to me. I saw that HL2 is free and I got it but I also wanted to finally purchase Portal (1 and 2). Sadly I noticed that the price is missing both in the app, in the browser, and the windows programme, so there is no way for me to purchase them. I heard that sometimes the Buy button is missing on games and it's been a well known issue for years, but not sure if this is the case since both games cannot be purchased even though months ago I could have done it...

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

What country you from?

Can try contacting Steam support since this is a valve game.

Try check with a Browser do it work there for you, buy it there if you can at steam, then client will add it and you can play it.

You need to have live in a region where there is trade embargo i think for not could buy them games.
Check if the bundle works - check if Portal has a price next to it (not sure why Portal 2 is not available from the "Orange Box" bundle tho):

Yet you do own "Portal and Portal 2 (plus all the defunct other Portal titles)" perhaps you can help OP better at obtaining a copy.:magic_wand::csd2huh:

I think, and this is weird but plausible, because "Postal" is banned in Germany, they made a mistake and also banned "Portal" because it is only one letter different. :badluck:

in 2011 and 2013 .. I just confirmed it was not available atm ^^
someone borked it and it will probably be fixed. both games do have the neccessary rating (USK12) to be sold here

Would this then be a case to push a ticket to Steam Valve to tell them that there could be a mistake on the Germany store/client? I mean, it is/they are their own game(s).

I am also based in Germany. Those are all interesting things. If you guys see it but I don't then there might be some limitation on the German market. Maybe a mistake maybe not, but it would be strange that they don't allow people to buy it now when months ago this was not the case.

no idea how to open a ticket for a game i don't even own :(

Might be related to:

If so then it is probably an oversight on Valve's part which hopefully they will soon correct.

Ask support then, Most IT department like sale department have huge power and can get other department to get it solve faster, i mean what IT compnay will not get sell things fixed asap. ( i guess its part of the we live to sell things online/service.

Go to Help > Steam Support > Purchases > "I can't complete my purchase on the Steam Store" > "Game or other software" and type Portal in the search box and then click Portal from the list of games. Then type message in the box such as "Why can't I buy Portal in Germany?"

Wow thank you very much @xarvn! I opened a ticket and will keep the thread open to share what they told me.

Thank you everyone for your support!

 Hopefully their response is not a link to this very thread!

Thankful that was not the case haha.

Here's what they told me (which was answered here already)

The change will only mean that we will no longer be able to offer games without an age rating for sale to German customers in our store. You will still have unrestricted access to your existing library and if games that interest you are sold as Steam Keys on third-party sites (e.g. by the developer), you will still be able to purchase such Steam Keys there and activate them on Steam.

I don't know how this game from Valve doesn't have age rating. I can understand a small developer failing to do so. Also what sort of rating do they mean? I see in the store that it has USK12 rating.

Whatever the case is I should probably get it from some 3rd party provider. I don't even know which ones are legit.

I guess the case is "solved". They cannot be bothered to fix their things
