Slow Scrolling on Mouse Wheel?
I don't know why but recently I got back on steam and when I scoll with the mouse wheel it moves stupidly slow. I swear it moves 1 Y-coordinate pixel per notch in the wheel. It doesn't do this on any other program or web browsers, just steam. Any Ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix?

*EDIT:*
As this is a old thread, I have updated with what I have learned from general PC use and from my Computer Science classes in pursing my degree.

Here are the potential solutions:
1. Disconnect and reconnect mouse
2. Uninstall mouse drivers, reinstall
3. Uninstall/Reinstall Steam
4. Do 3, 2, 1 all in order.

If those still don't work it is likely only going to be solved by reinstalling Mobo drivers, Graphics drivers, or windows entirely.

While the issue may be isolated to Steam alone, not all system configurations have this issue thus there isn't much Valve can do to work on it. If the problem persists after performing the above steps, I would advise just persisting through the issue by using the scroll bar on the right instead. It's a (female dog) I know but the problem isn't worth the lenghty measures one might need to take in order to solve it. It seems most people who came across this issue before only had it solved completely when upgrading hardware.

For what it is worth, mine eventually resolved itself with no action from me.

I never thought about the brand of mouse. I suppose it could be somthing with Logitech and Valve's store page code in Steam but it would require extensive testing for a rather minor issue. I personally hate work-arounds but the best I can give you is to just use scoll click and move the mouse cursor down ~15 pixels to scroll.

I found this old thread while searching for solution to this issue..

I have the mouse wheel scrolling set to the default 3 lines in Windows 7, and the scrolling in Steam Client is way slower than in any other programs, and it's very annoying!

I even made a screenshot comparison where you can see the difference one tick of mousewheel scrolls for me in Steam Client and when using the store from external browsers like Chrome or Firefox.

does it function like this for everyone using Windows 7 and Logitech mouse? I have had three very different rigs, and all had the same issue. Odd thing is that the issue is mainly in the store view, for example steam client library (texts version) speed is much better...

at least we see the difference, ive already tried balancing everything, my current setting is the best i got unless i get a new mouse

I just did a test with same system, but completely different mouse. This time with Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse 2.0 usb. But no difference, in Steam client scrolling works exactly as slow as with my Logitech G400. It seems it is not mouse related, but is it just my rig, or a wider Steam issue?

you mentioned you tried it on 3 very different rigs. Did it work the same way on all the rigs? All the time or did it just start happening one day?

If I remember correctly, my mouse scroll just came out of the blue one day on my laptop and that lead me to create this thread. If it is the same case for you, then that is certainly a Steam Client issue. Also have you tried updating to Steam Beta to see if it fixed it? might need something as simple as a reinstall but I think it might be something a bit more serious in the code.

I don't remember the exact day when it started, but I think it has been around very long. Over a year, maybe even two years? My latest system is now one year old, and the issue has been apparent from the day one. But I remember that with the system before that, the issue was not around in the beginning, but started one day out of the blue.. and it has been apparent all the time afterwards. Maybe it was a steam client update or windows 7 update that caused it, but it hasn't been resolved.

And I think the issue has even gotten worse with the new store layout.. or at least it is now more apparent and annoying since you have to scroll so much.

I haven't tried the latest beta client, but I think it might be a webkit (the engine that powers the in-client browser) related problem. But it must be somewhat related to our systems or drivers, since I would expect that if this was a wider issue (apparent with every system), there would be much more threads about it.

Well, i've manage to fix it a year ago (or so)...but not sure.
try to check\update\uninstall\install your hid devices in device management.
and in control panel\internet option do this
When the "Internet Options" dialog box appears, select the "Advanced" tab.
Underneath "Browsing", check or uncheck "Use smooth scrolling" as desired.
Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

i realy do not think that this is steam or mouse software\hardware problem

This has been going on in ALL of my computers for some time. Personally, I think it's a Steam related issue. There needs to be a scroll speed setting incorporated into the Steam client.

This has also been happening to me as long as I can remember. I've ignored it simply because I wasn't actively using the steam browser or other steam pages as often as I do now. However, now that I am more involved with gaming again, this is an extremely frustrating issue, especially when in-game and trying to browse any sites.

Simply asking users to modify their personal OS preferences in order to resolve the issue is not acceptable. This is a steam client issue only and has been for some time. It is not the mouse or drivers therein, as it happens on many different computers, different versions of windows, and various mice.

There should definitely be a steam client option to adjust scroll speed or otherwise steam needs to let the window use the operating system's default behavior.
