Steam Disk Read Error!
I downloaded Just Cause 2 and when i clicked play an error popped up and said 'an error occurred while updating Just Cause 2 (disk read error)'. I fully downloaded the game but it is still in the downloads section of Steam.

I tried verifying the integrity of the game cache and it comes up with '55 files missing...and will update' but nothing happens.

I've also re-installed the game but still no luck.

Can someone PLEEEEEEAAAAAAAASE HELP!

goto C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source\
and delete the cstrike folder and launch it. Worked for me

deactivate your virus program and go properties than verify integrity of game cache. My problem solved that way.

If anyone still is having problems with this I have a way that works if the file won't delete and you've tried everything. So I just figured out that maybe if I move the corrupted files out of the game folder maybe it'll work because I have been getting this message after Veryifing the game cache yesterday. All you need to do is find the corrupted file that isn't working and then just move it from the folder and onto the desktop. Then go back to steam and hit play and it should update fully and allow you to play. Have fun and stay safe!
here is my problem. this started happening to me today. not just with cs go. but with every game that required update (even if small) when im looking at steam what happens is it starts downloading the files it needs for like a second. then it stops. now when i look at the disk graph in steam while the download stops, the disk graph goes up all the way and eventually degrades and goes down. on the other hand on task manager my disk is still running at a 100%. now i already have fixed the permissions regarding reads and writes by going into properties, security, and adding different user groups such as administrators, username(owner) and system including the users group. that still does not work. i do not believe my hard drive is messed up because everything seems to be working fine. keep in mind that my steam and all of its games are installed in a different internal hard drive. also keep in mind that steam runs with full permissions to any file. keep in mind that steam is not getting blocked by my anti virus. even after steam has stopped downloading updates, my disk activity is still at a 100%. but looking at my hard drive activity indicator led i only see it flash about once a second. i will try ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with steam at this point and see if i can just refresh steam.

Thank you very much for posting this. although this did not really help me. it did help me find a temporary. so what i did was reinstall steam both my deleting everything in steam folder except steamapps/common and steam.exe and by installing it using the installer. i also installed steam in my C drive (ssd) to see if that helped. but no. it did not. steam still manages to cause problems. what i figured was lets see if i can install games to my c drive. yes it worked however. i do not want that because my ssd is not for games. its for my os and other things such as softwares and etc. the problem here is that if i try to download it to my previous drive (drive f where my games used to be in) i would not be able to download them. if i try however i did use link shell extention to shortcut the downloading folder to my F drive to see if it works. and what that does is download it on my ssd and try to install it to my hdd. i hope i can find a fix for this . at this point i find it to be a permissions issue. but i do not know what permission does steam really need since it never did this before.
A bit late I'm sure, I had a problem where my AVG ended up blocking my launcher.exe cause it thought it was a virus, doi , so I just disabled it until the update completed and it worked :D

did you try making sure your sata calbes are good and are tightly connected? no bad tentions? permissions are not messed up? try installing a new version of steam on a different drive and install the same game somewhere else and check. if that fixes your problem. then you have permissions issues. message me to help you AFTER figuring out what the problem is "wires or permissions"

This worked for me: Go to ''steamapps'', then ''downloading'', then ''730'', and open csgo. After that the game launches, and after rougly 20 seconds it crashes, then the downloading of the game automatically starts from the same % as when the error occurred...
And now i can play the game.

(This happened to me and now it worked, maybe this wont help for you).

:)
i fixed it :):steamhappy:

Go in your steam folder \Steam\logs\
Find file content_log.txt
Open whit notepad
I had error like thisUpdate job for app 730 canceled: Failed to backup file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\bin\engine.dll (Disk read failure)

Normaly its last one on list
find that file adn rename whell i deleted it
Than go in steam Library and pres right mouse on your game
And find Properties
Than go in Local files
and press VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE...
Normaly helps
