How to know if TV will have SteamLink support, or is it just an app nowdays?
Hello i plan to buy a new Samsung TV but when i see parameters the Steam Link is not listed while i found article in which all TVs beyond year 2016/2017 should natively support Steam Link.

Am i missing something? Steam Link function directly trough seller i usually buy have only way more expensive TVs.

Any info or advice? Thank you kindly.

Hi!

Sending you this discussion I just found, hopefully it helps: https://steamcommunity.com/app/353380/discussions/2/3728448512597933217/

Physical Steam Link was sold out and discontinued, instead an application was introduced.
I've just bought a pretty expensive Samsung TV in the belief I can play Steam games easily on it, but today I had to face the TV not supporting the Steam Link application at all.

Either choose a different TV or look for alternatives for streaming, or just wait for an update on this Steam Link <-> Samsung TV topic.

You're not tied to the Steam Link device, my dude! The Link app exists for Android, for example, so something-TV-box-stick-something running Android & its apps is a bona fide Steam Link box. Another solution (one I would go first for but I'm a nerd) would be a Raspberry Pi with, again, the Link app.

If everything else fails (or you got a HTPC ready anyway), a HTPC with Steam does exactly the same thing. Doesn't have to be a large box, mini-PCs are a thing and you don't need much power for streaming. Hell, there's even stick-sized PCs.
