Meta Quest 2 VR + ps4 controller + pc link/ Steam VR

I figure this is the best spot to ask- when pairing a ps4 controller to play steam games, should I pair it to the headset itself or to my PC? My PC is upstairs and my VR space is in the basement, I know the headset has no problem with the connection but the controller might not be as strong a connection.
