.JFIF file extension?
What's going on? First i saw this file extension on twitter X, then yesterday some google images merged to it, now the steam artworks gets this too?

Edit: OK, if anyone would like to revert it back to JPEG, i have found solution. Use WIN+R, type regedit, and navigate to this path:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg
There is an entry "Extension" with type REG_SZ, edit it and change .jfif to .jpeg. Save and close, form now on it will save and convert jfif to jpeg automatically.

Snapjak původně napsal:
It's just a different format of JPEG.

Yeah, but what's the sudden change that it becomes so popular today?
Could be a push for more meta data? I'm not sure tbh.
Note that 'technically' all jfif files are basically jpeg with exif equivalency data in it. Note that JFIF files are basically usually endoded with the JPEG file extension even though they are 'technically' JFIF.

Note that jfif is correctly defined to be Content Type\image jpeg as that's how the standard is defined.

In essence JFIF is 'technically' the correct extension since modern images encode JPEG images into the JFIF format in order to encode various metadata into it.
