hello

So you get the message from the steam client ( steam.exe ) i guess. And if you check folder \steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64 do you have steamwebhelper.exe ?

same with me. after steam last update my steam client can't showing up. in task manager steamerrorreporter.exe and steamwebhelper.exe keep run and stop over n over again.

I've done all the troubleshoot from the web. still not helping ....
My computer is not recognized by steam to access it anymore. I did not change anything there was an interrupt in my game I went to reboot to fix windows having to update, and steam erased my access to my purchased games from 2014.
i need to ask an admin how to contact steam when trouble tickets do not work because steam won't let me use my own games or download a new free one ONLY to access support?
I also cannot make a new account and get a free game either to then use THAT to post a trouble ticket to support. it refuses to download steam unless i remove all history of all steam versions and data off my computer as if I never bought the game by using a new computer!
HELP!!!!

Something to try

Go to your steam install folder
Find the steam.exe and cut and paste it into a new folder somewhere safe.
Right below that exe is steam.exe.old. Rename and remove the .old and run the exe this should force an update.

I don't know if this will work but worth a try and remember to delete the new folder with the other steam exe in it.

Same here. Was worth a shot - just had a Steam support email, with all the usual guff. "Here is the troubleshooting guide blah blah". They asked for dump reports etc which I've sent. Let's see if ANYTHING gets back. I have no games and life is NOT good !!!

Someone came to me and said it was still causing issues two days ago.

I am also seeing some weird issues so it has not been truly "fixed".

I have been following this issue since I discovered it.

Try the solution, I mean, it can't hurt.
hello

True as it won't hurt anyway to delete this file, just do it while steam is not running

Can you make a funny test, make a steam accout 2, and see if all is good there.
idea is more a a fresh steam user no past steam userdata.

I'm sure the other helper here also can see why i ask this and ofc we hope it work, or not both side of this output test could lead to other idea, ( try with diffrent windows login user even )
same as windows safe boot mode. ( steam interference ) issue.

Dont forget its only few steam user not all win11 user, ( its here it get hard to ID in what have you installed, and yet it could be a steasm issue , but then why so few.

gl with it.

Does anyone know whether I am supposed to have libraryfolders.vdf ? Going through the reports, it seems strange that it is searching for install folder configuration files - when I am trying to install the app? (See below)

[2024-06-16 19:57:30] Client version: 1718305227
[2024-06-16 19:57:30] Load failed: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\libraryfolders.vdf.
[2024-06-16 19:57:30] Load failed: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\libraryfolders.vdf.
[2024-06-16 19:57:30] Steam library folders configuration will be reset.
[2024-06-16 19:57:30] No install folder configuration files found.

Another question? What is a bootstrapper? In the webhelper log, the start of every report has:

[1970-01-01 00:00:00] Client version: no bootstrapper found

Could this be the cause?

Just tried that (install Steam over current version). Made no difference at all. Still going through a 'trying to load, then failing and re-trying' loop. App never actually loads - this is the third night now - there must be something I can do????

No there is no libraryfolders.vdf anywhere in Steam folder
