Basically a buy and sell aye?

I don't understand the selling part? Yes you can sell stuff, Carddrops from games, if you don't want to craft badges. Skindrops in stuff like CS2, but that won't earn you any exp though.

Leveling up your account requires earning exp. Every 10 levels you need 100 additional exp to level up once. It starts at 100 exp and goes up indefinitely. I'm level 122 atm and need 1300 exp per level up for example.

You gain exp by:

- Buying games (though you get way more for the first few games and later on only 1 exp per game)

- Doing the mentioned community badge tasks (500 exp for a full badge, which is automatically level 5 just from that)

- Getting or gifting awards from steam points (10 exp per award)

- Some exp for the age of your account (50 exp per year)

- Turning an item into gems for the first time (100 exp)

- The seasonal badge, purchased in the points shop, but every level costs more points (100 exp per level)

- Steam Year In Review (50 exp yearly, showing your years gaming activities)

- Steam Awards Nomination (100 exp yearly for a full badge, having completed all tasks)

- Winter/Summersale badges (100 exp per level up for every full set of summer or wintersale cards you craft during the two big sales, you usually get 1 card per day from doing your discovery qeue and some cards for spending money in the sales on games or crafting other badges)

- And the badges of each games carddrops (100 exp per badge x5 per game, since you can craft each badge 5 times)

The last two options will be your main way of getting exp on Steam, but they also require you to actively trade or buy the rest of the cards or boosterpacks to get full sets.

So while there are lots of other ways to get some, they certainly aren't doing nearly as much as paying money to get more cards to craft badges. Which is why I said "throw money at it".

That should be everything there is to leveling up.

Aside from a few freebies in exp, like the mentioned community badge, leveling up is basically throwing money at it. Nothing else.
