Steam Cloud Sync Error Message BUT Games are Properly Syncing
So this is odd.

My steam library appears to sync games properly, even though I receive an error message every time I hit play.

I verified this by playing a game on one system, creating a save, and then accessing that save on another system. This worked in reverse as well, allowing me to access saves through the cloud on both systems.

For some reason, on ONE of these systems, it gives me a sync error message right after I hit play. I will disregard the message, play the game and the cloud sync works as it should.

I've tried every method under the sun to fix the cloud sync error, but no dice. The closest I came to resolving the issue was to delete my userdata folder. That allowed me to load up a game without the error message after hitting play. The problem with that solution, however, is that all of my settings have been reset (duh), so I would have to manually re-add my non-steam games, change custom icons, change UI, rescript start properties for a whole bunch of games, etc, etc.

How can I fix this? It's really annoying to get this message on every game, even though it appears to be syncing regardless.

No its not, you need to understand sync, it dont matter if this is on steam server or that file on your pc. ( sync is a compare of a file that dont match. ) its that simple.

I could also say a corrupted file, is still synced as same broken file. ( it only compare it ) not a backup solutions.

It dont matter if stesm server is slow or buggy or have a glitch atm. ( the task is compare 2 files and do the match or not. )

Dont forget we are steam users here, in this steam users forum.

i assume all is still working as you said it.
you can make a steam ticket, but who know if steam has a issue or network issue among you both, and ISP or your local network cause issue. but again othe things can cause issue doing transfer, but now we are fishing after other issue.

lets see if this dont go away after steam patch day tuesday ( maybe its this you see now )

Tuesday midnight is steam maintaence day, and that can explan alot.

I was able to track down the source file causing the problem. It's the localconfig.vdf file in the userdata folder.

Removing that file resolved the cloud error, but as I said in the OP, it resets a bunch of things that I'm not up for configuring again.

Yeah GZ, but keep in mind your local file will always have newest date and time, until you restore from cloud, another way to say it, and thats why sync matters, or game could be a very old game save file .and you can have lost many hours, so ignore sync issue is equal bad.

But you solve it. ( make real backup ) if you dont want to lose save game data, this is not a joke.
we other just cry thn we dont do it. ( diffrent games have slot save other have whatever file name you did , its not that simple , if game only use 1 autosaver slot. but you might already know this.

anyway cya.
