Invert X-axis, Y-axis and all other controller options
Below is how to change the Xand Y axis setting on your controller while using an individual steam game. If you already know how to do this, or don't want/need this option, this thread isn't for you. I'm making this post as Steam seems to have changed some of these settings in recent years and there are numerous threads with people complaining they can't invert the axis in 'x' game - this will solve your problem (until Steam changes) for any/all Steam games:

1. Go to Steam Library (at the top of steam app)
2. Right-click on the game in question
3. Select 'Properties...' (on the bottom of the drop down)
4. Select 'Controller' (on the left)
5. Select 'Enable Steam Input' (from drop down on the right
6. Click 'Controler Configuration' (underlined in the body of the second paragraph on same page)
7. Select 'Edit Layout' (next to View Layout)
8. Select 'Joysticks' (4th option down on the left)
9. Select the 'gear icon' next to the first 'joystick' listed. (top-right of menu)
10. Select the slider next to 'invert horizontal' or 'invert vertical' axis (on the right side, may have to scroll down)
11. Back out of menus (close, B-button, click-back - DO NOT accidentally click select)
12. Start game, enjoy

I play with inverted X-axis and Y-axis due to feeling more natural (gyroscope instead of a pointer) and playing games back in the day when most/all 1st person games had an inverted Y-axis by default and 3rd-person games had both Axis inverted (if you played games in the mid 90s to early 2000s you may not remember - but this was the norm; look it up if you don't believe me). Hope this helps others as it was a pain finiding the easiest solution. This even works if you use a seperate loader to boot the game through Steam (I use GOG). Good luck.

Thanks a lot! My gf is playing coop games with me and needed this with her controller!
Oh this was amazing, thank you so much, I found the controller configuration but i was an idiot and clicked on View instead of Edit so never got as far as figuring out where the invert is. My brain think of the camera as like an irl camera and i'm the cameraman behind the camera, so i have to go left if i want the camera to pan right. some games don't offer inverted axis at all, so i'm glad at least steam input lets you override it. Thank you!
