Same issue for me. Could play only without internet. Made few restarts and now all is good.

Something similar happened today. Usually I play with the deck on the train without internet access (but not set to offline), and when I booted it, it was stuck in a "loading your user files" forever loop. I was able to get to Desktop mode, but it would not log to steam, so i could not use the trackpads.

It did not resolve until I was able to get to a place with internet. I suppose it's related to the Steam Families updates, but it was like having a paperweight today. The controls should work at OS level instead of relying on the stem client.

What worked for me was the following.

Try the following: Kill steam via taskmanager.
Go here with File explorer: <your steam install location>\Steam\config

open the "loginusers.vdf" with notepad. It contains all steam accounts that have logged in at your computer.

look for your user and set "AllowAutoLogin" to "0". Save the file

Start steam again.

That worked for me.

This actually worked! Thanks so much!

Why do customers have to help customers? Steam should be providing this information!

To echo the others - Thank you SO much Jessie or 76561198030616898, which ever u prefer.
I was trying to search old help threads on this topic from years ago all last night. Y'know how hard it is to stumble on this thread?
@ BenchWarmer - Yes indeed, why do end users need to trouble shoot and solve Steam's issue? Critical fault on this one too, can't play any of my paid for games, watching logo spin, making me think it's doing something so I wait...
Hate is a strong word. I strongly dislike Steam on this one. Thank u SO much Jessie!
