The current SteamOS distributed by Valve is only for the SteamDeck device and not compatible with "standard" desktop or laptop PCs.

what if I had an nvme disk?

Irrelevant. SteamOS 3 is only compatible with SteamDeck.

That sentence doesn't make any sense.
But right now there is no SteamOS compatible with desktop PCs or laptops.
Technically there is SteamOS2, but it is so outdated that i simply can not recommend it.

Any modern Linux distro with Steam in Big Picture mode will more or less give a similar experience as SteamOS.
hmm interesting because ive installed on many laptops and pcs for the hell of it
using the bazzite iso
which registers as a steam deck
you can find the iso by simply searching bazzite iso
so yes there are compatible iso
