Download of game is reset

IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF GETTING A GOOD ANSWER AS WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING? I have been trying to get my Ark Survival Ascended to download for over a month, and every time I get close, windows update resets my pc, or something else and i lose all my progress.

From what people have reported exiting Steam without shutting it down properly (using Steam > Exit from the top menu bar of the client) will cause it to restart the download from scratch. Your PC restarting due to windows update would cause that.

You can pause updates for 7 days, which would eliminate one cause, but generally check to see if there's an update, if there is pause the download, exit Steam properly and let the update through.

Another cause is game patches, if Ark is patched when you're in the middle of the download it will restart.

And the game did get an update yesterday. Which invalidates your outdated partial download.

why though, why cant it just update the files it needs, instead of starting over ? My internet is slow enough as it is, without a 15+ day download resetting every other time I look at it...

Even when I pause the download, it still loses all my progress, the last time it was at 80%, I have checked my cache and all that junk they want you to try, but it hasn't seemed to help...

Are yuo a laptop user then visit a friend with faster wan lines.

( we can not fix very low band lines here. ) thats need so many days to dl a game. ( assume that is the case )

I suppose I should specify that it's not about the speed, It's about an 80+ GB download fully resetting. I have unlimited data, but I really don't understand why it cant just load the fixed files it needs, instead of throwing the whole thing out and starting over... that would be like buying a whole new PC when a few sticks of ram or a new graphics card would do.

we are user here and not in controll over how game devs choise in how they do it.
