Connecting Ubisoft account to my steam account

recently i made the switch from ps4 to pc with Rainbow Six. I purchased the game on steam because it was on sale only then realizing they had cross progression. So i unlinked the steam account from the new ubisoft account thinking that i could just link it with the old account. when i did so however, when i open up the game in steam i receive an error message about not authenticating my ownership of the game. My question is, is what im trying to do possible? Is it not possible to switch Uplay accounts. On Ubisoft's website its not even an option to link accounts there.

I don't think you can. From their own support article.

You can unlink your accounts at any time. However, you will only be able to re-link the same account you had originally connected to your Ubisoft account.
