Steam doesn't let me upload a 6MB gif
I'm trying to upload a 6mb gif but steam says "You can only upload files less than 8 MB in file size". Tried with 5mb and the same message appears...

Any ideas how to solve this?

Edit: It's official. Steam only allows file sizes that are less than 5MB.

If no one pays for artworks, then there won't be a need for an artist as an occupation.

That's why it works on your profile page's showcase.

Just a case of poor wording :kae:

Honestly I read that as ..

We are tired of you guys spamming support so stop it.

If you want to ask for it use suggestions instead we are busy with actual work helping people with more important matters.

Frankly it is reasonable and I kind of expected it when people were calling for report spam to force the issue.

Either way it would be better to use the proper avenue rather than annoy them more over the issue... just be happy you forced them to announce something rather than leaving it up in the air.

They did screw up, and they must fix it. If we will just shut up and wait - they will think it's really not important and delay fixing the problem even further. They did send copy paste message to 90% of people anyway, so it's not like something time consuming for them. Main thing is that we showed up that it's important for us.

Of course they've got other things to do, but it doesn't mean that they can forget about our problem for months. Valve is a big company, I'm sure that they are more than able to fix little limit bug that annoys the community.

Suggestions are used to suggest new things, not to report bugs, and we definitely have a bug (or at least it seems like a bug). Moreover, that part of the answer was relayed to my question about a possibility that we'll have more supported formats, not to the bug report itself, so it's okay to report about it to support.

In addition, I didn't spam report, it was just 1 ticket about that bug with several questions in it. It's really not helping to just create new tickets or answer on support's answers, but it's nothing bad if more users will create new tickets about problem, if it's their first one. The more users report it - the higher chances that Valve will pay more attention to the problem.

Fair enough... like I said it at least made them do something.

In the end if you are suggesting the different format was what they implied for suggestions then this may indeed be a lost cause.

If you think keeping reporting it will do anything more power to you. Good Luck.
The gifs I have uploaded now since the update look awful now in preview. Like all broken and distorted :/ Thanks Valve.
So, the old(dec-jan) code should be:
if ( size > 5242880 )
{
alert( 'You can only upload files less than 8 MB in file size' );
return false;
}
Instead of fixing it to:
if ( size > 8388608 )
{
alert( 'You can only upload files less than 8 MB in file size' );
return false;
}
Now we have:
if ( size > 5242880 )
{
alert( 'You can only upload files less than 5 MB in file size' );
return false;
}
So, instead of fixing the size of the bytes. They just changed the alert notice.
Goodbye 8 MB limit.
yeh its either they dont care or their to lazy to fix it
Bois bois bois, & girls, they only have so much storage space on there data centers. Take a look at a pie chart of a typical storage device and you get a good idea. Some sh** need's to come "down" in order to make room for other things, economically without spending Millions more dollars they don't have. I'm as annoyed as anyone else.

I hate this sh** and I do alot of my own GIF artwork, you can probably tell on my profile. But this is what it comes down to. It's just a real pitty......... No one at Steam was Man/Woman enough & had the cahona's to say it straight how it was.

Every employee is clearly a budgie and isnt capable of much more than just eating there "seed" & going home. Sad place to work.

It is probably a bit off topic but that steam theme you are using on your profile is the one that cost 5k in steam point shop right? I wanna buy that one cuz it is transparent but it looks like the profile's details on the right side is still blurred, does 10k theme has full/better transparent or all the same? :cocochan2:
i think the dying light 2 theme/pack has full transparent on the side

But what about 20GB space just for screenshots? They wouldn't give so much of it for us if they didn't have enough space. It could be 2500+ 8MB GIF files per a user (and most people barely have 10-20 GIF's). So if they really have problems with space - they would cut that enormous limit first. And also why not just put both artworks and screenshots in that 20GB space? It's more than enough for both. So, no, I don't believe that it's a storage space problem.
