Steam doesn't let me upload a 6MB gif

I'm trying to upload a 6mb gif but steam says "You can only upload files less than 8 MB in file size". Tried with 5mb and the same message appears...

Any ideas how to solve this?

Edit: It's official. Steam only allows file sizes that are less than 5MB.

Steam doesn't allow animated .gif images. Make it a still png or jpg if you want to use that image as an avatar. If you want to share an animated .gif the only option is to upload it somewhere else like an image host (imgur, dropbox, flickr, pinterest,...those kind of sites) and share the link to it.

I could say workshop showcase is still good, you could expect around 10-15% of quality drop with 5 mbs and 1300 px. If make it 1000-1100px it will be with less quality drop.

Artworks from now will be cropped to 500-550 pixels or will be with lower timings.

They are did awful decision, but don't worry guys, it's still enough limit to make good artwork :Big_Heart:

The one you compressed is it still viewable in a web browser? Right click on it and open with your browser of choice. Maybe it's slightly corrupted. let me try one that is bgger then 4.5 mb.

i just tested it and steam doesnt applies any optimization.

Damn, it actually says 5MB now. I guess the "bug" is technically fixed because it actually reflects what the limit is now. It's a shame though. I really expected them to migrate to using WEBMs but nope, I was too optimistic. Thanks, Steam.
