Unable to install steam

I install the steam setup, but when I run it gives me an error saying: error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe

Please help, i have quite a few games i want to play but i can't access them...

Try uninstalling it. Then reinstall it to C:\Steam and see if it runs after that.

you will need to register with the very first email and password you started with. give the program some time and you may need support. steam is very protective and it might seem to much, in the long run this is a very good thing

Sounds to me like OP is trying to install Steam using a Limited Windows User Account.
Try installing from the Admin account.

Same for any games u install, if they fail to run under a Windows User Account that is set as Limited privledge, go on the Admin user account, go to root folder of where game has downloaded/installed to and then set the game .EXE to "Run As Admin" for All Users within the game .exe properties.

Overall u shouldn't have this issue. By installing a trusted app such as Steam Client to a non-System folder such as C:\Steam; the Windows feature UAC should not have any effect on apps that get installed to non-system folders.

I have this same problem to except when I tried the method above, I still couldn't open steam, but I was able to uninstall it.

i reinstalled it in C:\Steam but the shortcut on my desktop is dead when i click on it.

Just edit the shortcut so it is pointing to the correct Folder + File

Or go to C:\Steam, locate Steam.exe (application) right click that file, Send to > Desktop and a new shortcut will be made.
