Once you download and register the game to your UPlay account, it should be available indefinitely from that using the client.
Don't quote me but from what I understand the 30 day thing has to do with time of purchase. Like if u were to buy, then fail to register the product key within 30 days.
Now from my own experience and knowledge (no guessing here)
Once the key is registered to your account, u can re-download your games more times in future if need be, so don't be worried about this. Just do not delay logging into your Uplay account and activating your new game key once u have it. My friend had a free AC3 from his GPU purchase. He forgot about the card for couple months. I told him to use it, but the key was no longer valid once he tried it. So I can only assume the 30 day expiration on game keys is fact, based on that.
I have alot of Ubi/Uplay games (AC series and FC3) and I have re-downloaded them multiple times over a period of months.
When u buy from Ubisoft, they will email you the game product key and a download link to the game download manager. The game download manager is game specific, so back this up and don't lose it. However I would keep the original email so u will still have a link to your game download manager. Just don't rely on that email for your only means of backup to that is all I'm saying. The download manager will download the entire game in a series of linked compressed files. That download manager will also handle the install part of the game.
Once game is downloaded as the compressed installer portion, u can decide if u want to back this up for safe keeping and easy access, but you don't have to. Just be sure to keep the game download manager (very small app) so u can re-download the game if needed.
I purchased them through Ubisoft/Uplay thinking it would be easier without Steam as the middle-man. TBO it's much less headache to just get it from Steam. It will still use and require Uplay if it is a Ubisoft game that requires it. But u don't need to mess with the Ubisoft download manager, game backup, etc. And no email with key from Ubisoft. When u purchase a game such as AC3, FC3, SC:Blacklist; in Steam. The key is tied to your Steam account. Then u click that key, copy it. Then launch the game, it opens Uplay Client, u login with Uplay account, then click activate product and paste your key there. Same key will be tied to Steam account and Uplay account. Should u need to redownload/reinstall the Uplay game, u would do that from Steam Client.
