scanning as we speak, so its defo something abnormal, just wondered if anyone else was getting it.

the only other thing ive changed in the last few weeks is a steam extension: Enhanced Steam 5.1.1

That makes little sense since akamai is a legitimate 3rd party content provider.... Facebook/Twitter/cnn all use that same sub-domain to deliver content

Are you using Chrome? I'm getting the same exact alert, just started this morning. Only in Chrome. I'm actually using my work PC and I'm positive I don't have any Malware.

This might be a false positive...still something that worries me :\

Can people confirm a few thigns

1) What version of Chrome are you using
2) What are your DNS settings
3) If you "ping steamstore-a.akamaihd.net" what IP address do you get?
4) What is your general geographic location

akamaihd.net is a Content Provider for different larger companies (e.g. Facebook) it is a common practice for larger Websites to use these services for scalability and to be nearer to the user.

It does mirror the content from the original server. So if changes are made from Steam the akamaihd Servers will reflect that. The only way the Steamstore could be tempered with is if a request to steampowered.com is redirected to an other server and not the real steam webserver.

However this is acually unlikely that people all over the world are suddenly having this same issue.

I got the "Problem" with my Win-Machine, a Linux-Laptop and also tested it with my Smartphone via UMTS (i.e. not using my normal router/ISP connection).

However i did try out the Enhanced Steam for Firefox.

EDIT:

I am guessing that Steam is preparing for the puchase-storm at the upcoming Winter Sale. So the Website can better handle all the requests
