The Best Zombie Survival/Simulater Game/Mod?

ive been looking for a zombie game where you can fortify, scavenge and well... survive in a zombie outbreak. ive played most zombie games out there and dont really meet what im looking for:( i think this discussion will not only help me find a game im happy with but help tons of other people:) oh and i dont mind if its single or multiplayer

I never played it, but the DayZ mod for Arma II is probably the best I've heard about. It sounds really tough to get into, since you start completely alone in a world where no one can be trusted... but if you can get a little group together and/or run into strangers who actually want to work as a team in order to survive...

Hey, kind of like a real zombie apocolypse... ;-]

EDIT: It's a mod at the moment, but apparently it'll be a standalone game at some point.

ive played it dude:) im just looking for something where the zombie are real zombies, because most games have them running ALL the time and its just not too fair, the odd 1 or 2 running zombie is fine just not all the time :P

The isometric view the game had might turn you off but Project zomboid is really cool the game is still being made atm but you can buy the alpha version from desura and play it its only like 8$ and the next update that there working on is sounding awsome

Try the old Resident Evil games on emulators (or the actual console if you have them), meaning Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica or the Resident Evil 1 remake on Gamecube/Wii.

The zombies (usually) don't run in them. :-]

great game dude :P just a problem that me and my friends face is that the only way we seem to be able to kill them is by shooting them :/ no meele weapons :( but apart from that its pretty cool :P

If you are looking for more "old-school" zombies and lots of melee weapons you might want to give Dead Island (GOTY edition) a try. I bought it over the Christmas sale and although I haven't played it much the zombies seem to be a combination of rushers and stagering dead.
Certainly check out some youtube videos first, but it's a much different pace than say Left4dead, which I actually like.

played it once before :P but im not to sure if im gonna get it back becuase i would find my self stranded with tons of zombies, and it just dosent fell like im doing damage when i attack them. but never the less its still pretty awsome

Simular experience myself actually. Since it's a co-op game it seems balanced for more than one player. I'm going to give it another try myself (proably) but not sure how far I'll bother if it's coop only.
