New GPU, some steam games will no longer work.
I recently bought a new video card and now some steam games will no longer launch properly.
The games will just launch into a black screen and will not respond, only possible action is to terminate via task manager. The error I get from Event logger, application hang.

The games that are currently doing this are: Civ 5, COD BO2, CS:GO, , age of empires 2, and Europa Universalis 4. Civ 5(both DX9 and DX11) will load up to intro video then will hang in a black screen when my monitor "refreshes" as so to speak (it redisplays DVI mode in the top left, and will flicker once).

I have managed to get the games to work on my new card by using Driver swiper(or whatever its called again, new DDU program for VGA drivers) (and CCleaner to wipe REG) to completely uninstall and reinstall my video card driver, however upon restart, the games will proceed to go back to hanging upon launch. (using Nvidia drivers 331.82 and previously 331.65, both do the same thing)

I've tried Verifying game caches to no avail, reinstalling games/directX etc to no avail. So far this seems to be only a steam problem, since other non-steam games seem to work fine, namely BF4 which ran smooth on full settings without any crashes (though after reformatting BF4 is crashing every 2 mins, reformatting didnt fix steam issues either)

PC Specs:

i7-3820 @3.6ghz
32GB G-Skill TridentX DDR3 1600
Asus Sabertooth X79
900W Antec HCG PSU
Nvidia GeForce 780Ti
Sandisk 240GB SSD
Seagate 1TB and 2TB HDD (steam and games are installed on the 1TB HDD)

Running Windows 8.1 Pro 64Bit , clean install after Killdisk/reformat.
These games (except EU4 since i recently bought that) were running fine with win 8.1 when i had my old gtx680 (in both single and SLi configurations), leading me to believe that windows 8.1 isn't the problem (though i may be wrong), im going to perform another reformat in attempts to fix my new BF4 issue, but the steam issue still stands.

Is anyone experiencing the same problems or have any solutions?

Thanks

I have tried that and unfortunately to no avail, games just don't work unless i delete/reinstall VGA drivers but they go back to not working upon restart.

You could try deleting (or dragging to desktop so you can restore it if it doesn't work) the config files to the games that have the problem. This will force the games to redetect your system and create a new config file.

for COD BO2 it would be

hardware.chp
hardware_mp.chp
hardware_zm.chp

Turns out i've managed to solve at least my Civ 5, EU4, CSGo problems after playing around with EVGA Precision, having the On-screen display was causing steam games to not load/crash. Also having shadowplay enabled was causing the same problems. For now disabling the OSD and not install GeForce Experience has fixed my issue.

I had a similar problem. This was the solution that worked for me.

"Please restart your computer and then follow these instructions to refresh your Steam files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638

Once completed, please verify the game's files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335"

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
