Basically, multi-tasking is handled for you.
That would be a bottleneck type problem. Even if however, a download should not get "corrupted". Steam clients track/manage packets from the Steam servers. Same reason why you are able to pause and resume downloads.
In the case of limited bandwidth, if a user tries to multi-task (say YouTube and a download), it can be thought of as: both gets a certain proportion of the bandwidth available. If both are active, both will be slow (simply stated).
Haha, yeah, I'm guilty of it too! :P
Well, that's definitely a different story. Are your games corrupt after being downloaded, or are games you've known to be good, suddenly are unplayable?
Skyrim played it once then stopped working
Arma never played it then stopped working
Witcher never played it stopped working
kingdoms rise never played it stopped working (but works now for some reason)
ac3 never played it stopped working (also works now)
state of decay never played it stopped working
and so on
Once u get back @ Windows Desktop, go to each game (one at a time) and go to it's properties. Then click on Local Files > Verify Game Cache. This should help to resolve any corrupted game files. If u still continue to have troubles then it is most likely something else.
Such as faulty RAM, Hard Drive; or perhaps even CPU/GPU overheating problems which are causing in-game issues and/or crashing issues.
