Torchlight 2 - Tired of a normal mob killing me in one shot
When I played Torchlight when it was not part of Steam, it played just fine. Now that it is part of Steam, I have grown weary of the slightest tap by a normal mob killing me when I am playing in a multiplayer game. It doesn't matter whether or not you are playing with mods, the result is the same.

My advice: watch the discussions and make sure the bug is fixed before you purchase Torchlight 2. If they never fix it, don't buy it.

Just FYI.

it's part of steam since day1 release so I don't know what you're talking about

also you're maybe used to casual difficulty and the games you join are veteran/elite
there's a HUGE difference even between normal and veteran

Ehm.... casual much?

Have you ever played a co-op before this? The more people in the same area, the more difficult it is. So a normal game with 4 - 6 people can be as difficult as vet. And a 4-party elite game is brutal. And man, you really need to brush up your skills and build. Csual isn't worth mentioning. Normal is a joke. Veteran is good. Elite is the way it should be.

I am talking about casual mode, with two players. You can be playing with modded armor with insane defensive stats or with no mods at all. Either way, a normal mob can one shot you---and it doesn't even have to be a critical hit.
Ehm...do you actually try things out before you post a reply?

I have no idea what you mean mobs one shotting you. I'm playing with synergies mod on veteren doing 100+ dungeons at lvl 96 and nothing is 1 shotting me. You must have a bugged game, did you try to uninstal and reinstall?

Uhm, yeah. I'm having like, 5 chars in unmodded game and 1 in Synergies right now. And even my Synergies elite mage with normal gear (rare items, no uniques) seldom gets one-shot. Trust me, Synergies is stupidly brutal. In unmodded game, even my squishiest char (badly-built outlander in vet game) don't get one-shot at the frequency you mention. I just got out of a 2-people vet game with a health-stealing but otherwise non-tanky dual-wielding berserker (the only OP gear I have is the claw, which does not concern survivability), and the only time I get "one-shot" was when I was careless enough to barrel in the middle of the mob so they all hit me at the same time. And FYI, I no longer play unmodded game solo.
There have been mentioned a bug concerning embermage getting one-shot (mostly from crits) due to their armor being ignored in co-op game. However, I've met lots of mages, and they're all doing fine.
EDIT: It might be that only the particular casual game is bugged, but I've never heard of such a bug before. Nonetheless, I've farmed NG+ games on casual w/ 2- 3 people and people only got one-shot because it was Tarroch's tomb. Bosses there are like lvl 180+. We were all fine w/ normal mobs, which were all lvl 105+.

Go to the Torchlight 2 workshop, and search on: Mob crit only 25 percent. A modder fixed the problem for a while, and then an update broke the fix.

Wow,just experiment and, oh I don't know, solve the problem yourself. Probem solving at some point will prove to be invaluable. Yeah, I know, It takes time and focused bother.

Surft the Web, and you will find many discussions about this bug. Bugs cannot be fixed by non-programmers. But I realize it is easier to take a baseless potshot at someone than it is to think.

it's a known bug where your level is reset to 1 (including your resists) and you're able to be one shotted by trash mobs. I don't think there is a fix to it. I've heard if you're playing multiplayer, your friend can check and see if you are level 1 or not.

He's talking about getting killed by one hit by normal monsters in a normal game. It happens. It's incredibly annoying and makes Ironman games unfun. There are scads o' threads out there regarding this.

You people are ignorant. Purposely or otherwise.
Majora Nov 27, 2013 @ 6:30pm
@Chuckles please post some links to these threads. I never heard of this problem until this thread.

Here are some threads on the Runic forum (then see my comments afterwards):

My friend and I play multiplayer in casual mode (modded and unmodded), and my friend has armor boosts that give him 17000 hp (in modded mode). He can still be one-shotted by a normal trash mob.

Well I have ran into this/or a problem like this, in multiplayer games. And my best guess is between level differences or just some killer mobs or maybe the one that gets me all the time is: “Damage Reflection” where the mob sends back at you quite a bit of damage you sent his way.... And I can kill myself pretty quickly. ><
Lovis Feb 28, 2016 @ 11:33pm
what happens is the mob are hitting you like you lvl 1 if you look on the screen of the person your playing with it will who you at lvl 1 even throu you have 1000 armor and 10000hp it will bypass you armor rating and hit you for the full amount
