Neither: get a 3DS
Straight up, word from the wise here. Buy an old PSP 1001, and install a custom firmware on it. There are many tutorials out there on how to do this, and it is VERY easy nowadays.

As soon as you jail break it you will be able to do a number of things.

Play emulators PRE ps1 and N64 PERFECTLY, on a VERY beautiful wide screen.

Also, you will be able to turn PS1 .iso's into perfectly runable games on the PSP.

The PSP as far I know does not have a very good N64 emulator, but the last time I checked basic games were playable, like Mario 64 and especially Super Smash.

Just my two cents.

i would like to play some games post ps1. and maybe even some actual psp games.lol. but thanks
Obviously you can play PSP games on it. You can just torrent them and put them on a stick because a psp with CFW can run .iso's.

Whatever though bro.

but doesn't the, say, psp 1000 have a lot worse specs and performance than the psp 3000?
...No. You can hack a 3000 too, I just dont know anything about it. the only difference is how big/heavy/phat they are.
