PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!
OK, to start off, i just got a new router/modem and thus a new internet connection with it, and something else that i didn't really want to go with all of that was... steam not being able to launch.

To be more precise on the matter, when ever i click on the steam executable or a shortcut (anything really) and then try to log in, i get a really saddling message that says something like this; "Steam is having trouble connecting to the [Steam] Servers" and it gives me the option to retry connection or cancel.

Also to point out, i have indeed looked at many other forum posts and such on cases similar to this, but because of my recent lack of Steam knowledge, i have no idea what to do.

For example i have tried the following:

1.) Uninstalling steam

2.) Turning off my firewall

3.) Deleting Blob files (which keep reappearing BTW)

4.) (regretfully) deleting my steam apps folder thinking it was because of a corrupt game

5.) Editing firewall preferences

6.) Waiting for days to see if it would work later

I have just about tried anything i can think of right now and i still haven't gotten steam to "connect to the servers" from the application itself. please someone help me, this is a really big hindrance because i just bought a new graphics card to boost settings and frames in steam games.

Please help, Please... i have no clue whats going on :(

i no clue too...
The problem is clearly seems to be with your new routers setting. Go into your routers setting by opening up a web browser as type in the following which correspond to your new routers brand into the navigation bar and then hit the enter key;

After that login to your router. The login credentials are commonly on the back of your router with the address to access your routers settings. Look through the setting for something call UPnP or Universal Plug n Play. This is required to connect to steam as it will open the necessary ports. Make sure this is set to enabled.

If you have done so and it hasn’t help try looking at the link below to see if your port or connection to steam is still blocked.

In your router setting make sure the following ports to steam are open:

What is your router? If you gave me the name and model number/ code I’ll be able to find all the default settings which may conflict with steam connecting to your computer.

My router is a technicolor, model TC8305C.

Hi, I have the same problem since about 2 hours. I can't launch the steam client, only gets the message that it can not connect to the steam network.

get a new router, or just restart your computer. this worked for me
Logon to your router by entering http://10.0.0.1 into a web browsers address bar. You can find all the required ports here for Steam.

In your router go to Advanced then Port Forwarding. To find your local IP:
  • Click the windows start button
  • Search for cmd.exe (type cmd in the search bar and press enter)
  • When the console opens up type in the word ipconfig
  • Look for a number next to IPv4 (for example something like 10.0.0.8)
  • Write this number down

Now Add port forward for each port listed in the required ports. Enter them like so:

Service name = Steam client1
Service type = TCP/UDP
Server IP address = *Your IPv4 number*
Start port = 27015 (or another port listed in the article)
End port = 27015 (or another port listed in the article)
Enable port range = *tick*

Then click save and do this for all the ports listed in the article

Port forwarding all these ports should allow steam full access to your computer. Good luck and if you have any trouble just reply to this forum again.

[added]: You may want to try going to Gateway then Firewall and alter your security settings. Too strict settings will block required connections to Steam.
