TF2 Connection Issues
Whenever I boot up TF2--and this is only with TF2, mind you, not with anything else--the loading screen for the main menu is glitched up: The top left corner of the screen displays what it's supposed to (part of a greyed-out screenshot from one of the maps), but the rest of the screen either appears as static fuzz or random images from in-game, depending on how long it's been since I've tried to connect. This problem's been going on since before Halloween, but it hasn't affected gameplay; I could still choose all options from the main menu, I could still connect to a server, could still use loadouts--everything else was still normal.

But now, it's gotten WORSE. The glitched loading screen still appears, and after a normal main menu, where I can check everything, access the store, etc., I can't connect to a server. The game tries to connect me, but after about 2-3 minutes of waiting to retrieve server info, TF2 abruptly closes completely, and I have to re-open it. I tried multiple times with multiple game modes, just to confirm that it's not an issue with the servers, so it must be an issue with either the game or my computer. Seeing as the main menu opens fine, I'm inclined to believe it's my computer, not the game, that's the problem, but I'm not sure. I've tried closing all other programs on my computer, I have no ad-block, virus block, etc., that could get in the way, I've restarted my computer, I've restarted Steam, I've validated the cache files, I've reset my internet connection, even reset the modem and router, and the problem persists... It's probably worth mentioning that I'm playing on a Macbook Pro laptop, although two of my friends who also play on Macs haven't had any problems at all--one also plays on a Pro, one on an Air, and they haven't had any problems at all.

I've never had a problem before now--is anyone able to help me out?

First of all, verify the local game content.

How would I go about doing that? Sorry if it seems rather apparent to you, but I know jack s**t about computers... Is it any different than validating the cache files?
Need help too
Below I have listed the possible solution for your problem

Verify integrity of game cache
To Verift Integrity of game cache firstly right click on the game you wish to do so, go to Properties, then navigate to the Local Files Tab. The 4th button down will say Verify Integrity of game cache…. Click that will begin to search the game for missing or corrupt files, they will then be automatically corrected.

Graphics settings
However, if your problem is not resolved by verifying game cache it could be something wrong with your graphics settings for the game. There are two way to test this;

1. Right click on TF2, go to properties, General Tab, Click set launch options and type in
-Safe
.
2. Same as above apart from put –autoconfig instead of –safe (this will auto configure your game at start up.

To undo these remove the text later.
You may also want to look at other Lauch Options for TF2.

Worst case scenario, reinstall the game.

To A_Friendly_Fox:

Tried the cache verification; did nothing. The -safe actually fixed my graphical glitches on the start up screen, so I'm curious as to what's interfering with my game, but sadly, it didn't help the connection issues I've been having. When I replaced the -safe with -autoconfig, the glitches came back, and I still couldn't get on a server.

I guess now comes reinstalling the game... I still get to keep all my loadouts, though, right? Took me godd*** forever to get my Spy and Scout sets, among others, and I don't want to lose them.
All your saves are back-up and saved to Cload. By re-installing you will also re-install all your progress since the last time you played. Hope you're able to play again soon.
Try checking if HL2 in firewall is allowed

To A_Friendly_Fox - Even reinstalling didn't work... I don't suppose you have any other suggestions?

To BlazeClaw - My firewall is turned off at the moment, and it still doesn't work.

To literally anyone listening: Any suggestions?
