The party-system in Sword of the New World was the main reason I didn't play it for long -- sounds nice in theory, but failed in more than one way.
"Dust: An Elysian Tail" has the player encountering Ahrah, a sentinent sword, and his guardian Fidget in the opening scene. Throughout the game, Fidget serves as the sidekick, and a lot of ingame dialogue is between Dust and her. Occasionally Ahrah joins into these as well. You don't get to control Fidget, though -- although technically she's the one providing the spellcasting, but that's just a graphical thing -- the spells come "out" of her instead of your character when you hit the button, and the stat is called "Fidget" as opposed to something like "Spells" or "Magic".
In Trine (and Trine 2) you *are* a party of three, literally. While there is some dialogue between these characters occasionally, you only see/control one at a time -- you can switch characters at any time and they will just change into the other one while staying on the same location, but you'll never see them all except in cutscenes.
It's easier to find games with pets, of course. As for F2P MMO"RP"Gs, I played a Venomancer in "Perfect World" (has the ability to summon a pet to fight for her, created from eggs that can be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ from several monster types in the game), or a Dominator in "Requiem: Bloodymare" (has the ability to call 4 different types of undead as pets). As a side note, those two represent the two main ways to deal with pets: Perfect World made you "care" about your pet to avoid having it killed; Requiem used the pets as cannon fodder -- in some fights, the only thing to worry about was to time things correctly to replace dead pets quickly enough and without the boss turning his attention to you.
My "Lord of the Rings Online" char was a Lore-Master, which also has some pet-summoning abilities. Didn't feel all that powerful, though.
In Diablo-II, my standard class has always been a Skelemaner -- a Necromancer variant that focused on minions. That's more like your "army" case, though. My "Path of Exile" char was trying a similar route -- I don't know whether it's the route or the F2P nature of the game, but I won't be able to complete Act2.
My "Cabal Online" char sports a pet mummy, but pets are pretty useless there.
IIRC I even avoided having a pet in "Dream of Mirror", as the game required you to take care of it or it would run away eventually -- and for that, even offline time counted. Which is especially bad since pets are cash-shop exclusive -- although they come out randomly, and bad pets aren't that expensive to buy from other players.
