Trying to get Steam to come up on startup in Big Picture mode Windows 8
I want Steam to come up automaticly in Big Picture mode soon as the PC boots up. I have windows 8.1 and when I select for steam to start automaticly and for it to start in big picture mode it does not work because windows by default comes up to the Start screen instead. You can hear steam in the background and soon as you click on desktop it goes to steam in big picture mode. Is there a way to get win 8 to go straight to Desktop and the steam big picture mode rather than the wondows start screen? This is very annoying as I mostly use my PC for games and rather not have to have my keyboard and mouse out and ready all the time just for a couple clicks. --- Also while I'm at it is there a way to have the xbox usb controllers xbox button to send a signal to the computer when it is off to power it on?

Yes.

For Windows 8.1, right click on the taskbar, then select properties.

A smaller window will appear.

On one of the tabs, select "Navigation" then check the box that says "When I sign in, go to he desktop instead of Start".

Press Apply
Yantzee! Thank you!
Any idea on boot on xbox button on the 360 USB controller or am I hoping for too much?

It describes how you do it for a USB mouse, perhaps you can enable your xbox pad too. Keep in mind that it's for "Standby" and not the "Hibernate" - like mode Windows 8 uses when turning it off.
Thank you. I found out that when the computer goes into sleep the xbox button does wake it up. No need for a full power down unless I'm about to move it locations since its very close to the same anyways. Now to figure out how to put the computer to sleep with the controller and I'm set. Don't want it to automaticly sleep after a certain time because of downloads. Anyone figure that one out before me please let me know. thx
I don't know if this will work, but you could create a batch file to go into sleep mode and add the shortcut to it to your library as "non-steam game".
I found this:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
Paste it into a text file and Save it as .bat. Then add it to your library and you should be able to navigate to it with your pad and execute it.
I found that in big picture mode when you click on the power icon and it gives you the menu to exit to desktop there is also a option to put the computer to sleep. And when you want it to power back up you just press the xbox button on the controller and it wakes back up right back into big picture mode. Beautiful.
