I have a similar problem occasionally where the wave volume on mine gets set all the way down. I have no clue what is doing it, as it seems totally random.

Also, this has to be asked: what exactly is your avatar? O.o

It is known for Steam to sometimes change it, so if you maybe change it via Steam, it will stick to the values you configure in there.

how do I change volume via steam? Can't find it.

Also if I go to the games folder and start it there the sound is normal but after it shows valve logo it shuts down and start via steam with high sound.

Do you use Skype as well?

No, I generally use Axon and rarely teamspeak.

If you mean that Steam resets the "Windows Mixer Setting" of the game on launching the game, it is a long-standing and well known bug... Since this has existed for at least 2-4 years, I think we can safely assume Valve does not give a flying fornication about this bug.

Your only option is to mute game on start, then do the neccessary changes ingame. If the game does not have any volume controls (like some UBI-soft miscreations), then you're out of luck. (Meaning you'll have to re-set the volume every time you start the game.)

Unconfirmed: I have read somewhere that the mixer-controls are _not_ reset by steam, if you start the game from its folder/(or via a desktop shortcut), instead of clicking "play" in Steam.
