If a game is running in compatibility mode its usually because it runs better in that mode.

Ok. i keep trying to play Company of Heroes 2 and it keeps crashing. but before it will let me play, a little pop0up says that it or steam are in compatability mode and its likely it will cause the game to run improperly, or crash it.

Right click the excecutable and go into properties. But again if its already on that is likely for good reason.

Windows has a habit of arbitrarily applying compatibility settings to steam and if that is what has happened it can cause steam to run slowly and crash.

If it is the game itself then as Laptop65 said, you need to check the .exe file for the game in Steam->steamapps->common wherever you have Steam installed to on your PC.

If you go to the Steam client, right click on the game in your library list then select Properties from the dropdown list - in the Local Files tab, select Browse Local Files and that will open the folder where the game is installed - you should find the .exe for the game in there.

no, just the pop_up "Company of Heroes 2 has detected it is running in compatibility mode. This is unsupported and should be addressed before launching the game. Attempting to run in compatibility mode will cause the game to run improperly or likely crash. To solve this, ensure neither Company of Heroes or Steam is running in compatibility mode" that is the exact text in the pop-up besides the "ok" and "cancel" button. COH2 wasnt in my compatibility folder, and neither was steam, but other steam games were
