How to stop Steam from seeing the controller? (solved)
I have external software for mapping the controller.

Steam is constantly interfering with it, by bringing up Steam overlay when I press the guide button.
This sucks, since I use that button to take screenshots by mapping it to F12, and Steam ruins that.

Unbinding all controller buttons in Steam works only for the current session - when controller gets disconnected and reconnects again, Steam continues the usual bul1shit of bringing up overlay every time I press guide button.

How to stop Steam from seeing the controller at all, to stop its unwanted interference?

Disabling overlay is not a solution since its needed for taking screenshots, the very function I use the guide button for.
_________

Update: the issue of guide button always opening overlay was fixed in beta client

This seems to have started happening after latest major UI update.
Before I was using controller with Steam for years with no issues.

I already have everything disabled in Controller tab - doesn't help.

If Steam input is disabled shouldn't this have stopped the interference?
Why doesn't it?

Ask own Brand controller support to know then steam is activ and match a profile for that platform.

ps.
problem inhere what prevent other platfrom not to agree with that. ( in old days called load profile to fit profile.

I don't understand what this means. I want to prevent Steam from detecting controller at all, regardless of which controller I use.

Don't need the beta for that - I already disabled chords, bringing up overlay is a different fucntion, so doesn't help.
"Enable Guide Button Chords for controllers" is off.

I disabled Steam input globally, so that it would be disabled for all games - doesn't help.
You'd think that this would and should have helped, but it doesn't.

All "Enable Steam input for ..." options are off.

Ah, so you meant that they specifically fixed the bug there, makes sense then.

Tested it just now, the issue is gone, thanks for the info!

I didn't have to disable steam input in each game - by default games are set to use a global setting, so if the global is steam input off, then it will be off in all games that use the default global setting.
