No Controller Found [Solved]
Ever since the Steam update a couple of days ago, my controller cannot be found on steam. It works for other games though. Any ideas?

What controller are you using?

When you say other games, I gather you mean controller is working for non-Steam games?

First, double check the Steam settings for controller. Check Setttings>Controller and see if it'showing up at all. If it is, then focus on tinkering with Steam controller settings.

If it's not showing up here's what fixed my issue:

Go to Windows> Control Panel> Devices and Printers

You mention controllers works in other games, so should be visible here. Find your controller, right click, select "Game Controller Settings". You should see a window with "Reset to default" button. Click this.

Now, if you get this far, you can also use the "Test' tab and this will at least give you confidence that Windows settings is not the issue. If you confirm its working in Windows Game Controller settings then you should experiment with toggling Steam controller settings.

Thanks for the reply. I've done everything you mentioned. It's showing up in control panel>devices so I reset to default, but it's still not showing up on steam.

It's a wireless Xbox controller.

I've ticked and unticked everything in steam controller settings but nothing helps

No worries. Sorry these steps didn't immediately get this going, but it is helpful in what is revealed.

Can you make sure you have no other applications running that use controller? Any clients like Gog, etc, close out of every single program including Steam, and then only open Steam.

Xbox controller, you mean 360 or One? Whatever the case these kind are probably the most compatible with Steam so the issue your having is a bit unusual in that respect.

Xbox Series X/S... Closed everything, restarted pc and still no luck.

Yeah, it's unusual that it worked fine up until the update, and now, nothing!

In Steam Settings> Controller.

Please check: Does it specifically say "No controller detected" or does it show a "Rumble" toggle switch?

Is this connected using Bluetooth? Or Xbox Wireless adaptor?
Also, make sure "Enable Steam Input for Xbox controllers", and disable every other toggle switch.

There's also a button "Xbox extended feature support driver>Install". Click that.

It says "No controller detected" and it's connected via wireless adaptor

Interesting. Did you try my most recent suggestion? You might need to install that driver, especially since you have Series X/S.

My next port of call would be to close out of Steam, reboot PC. Unplug/re-plug Wireless USB adaptor and re-pair the Wireless controller to adaptor. The fact Steam Settings is saying "no controller detected" is strange, I've mainly seen issues like this when other software is using controller.

Just the same as before. It works, just not on steam. Still says no controller detected.
