bug - steam client web helper playing random video sound in the background

One of our players had the following issue today:

While playing a game (Medieval Dynasty), and after clicking on a youtube video link in the games' steam forum, steam kept automatically playing video sounds in the background whenever and everytime Medieval Dynasty was started.
Closing the game and background video sound stopped as well.
Starting the game back up and background video sound started again.


Restarting steam, restarting Medieval Dynasty, restarting PC didn't fix the issue.
We pinpointed the problem in the volume mixer to steam client web helper playing the video sounds in the background.

Stopping the steam client web helper in task manager didn't help either, since it automatically restarted itself every time.
Eventually the problem was fixed by completely de installing and afterwards re installing Steam.

Any advice on how to fix this without having to re-install steam? And how to prevent it in the future?

So many thanks Morri , better then this i can't explain it , it's a big issue when you have it - Special i have Lucky my games are installed on a other partition or i have to download all again my games that i play at the moment ! Steam support we have to go forwards not backwords special not with this kind of issue's

I just encountered this bug aswell,emergency solution is mute the webhelper,but still using my CPU and NET makes me crazy.

If you haven't worked it out yet, it looks like the actual issue is that you're playing a video in the Steam overlay (Shift-Alt from within the game.)

Closing the tab playing the video should stop it, although I also had to restart the game before it stopped playing the video audio over and over.

same here but not (Medieval Dynasty) mine is (shadowverse), and client web helper sucks it is for web idk why it got sound effect

it absolutely cause by network connection from client web helper, i play stand alone game client web helper don't start up automatically so sound is disappear

only solution for now is mute this stupid helper and see your cpu gpu ram keep raise if you still need to play this game

Seriously, check your Overlay and turn off the video.

Mine was Total Warhammer 2, playing a Stellaris video in the overlay.

Thanks for the tip! If it ever happens again, we'll try this to see if the video is showing there.

I was going crazy -> The Hunter Call of the Wild Advertisment in the Background of X4 Foundation,...

Right click X4 -> Properties -> General -> Steam Overlay
worked for me and my sanity,..
