How to get rid of Steam splash screen on startup in New UI?
Because of new CEF trash Steam now starts up withing 10-40 sec, showing big splash screen which steals focus. This is very annoying on Windows startup because Steam launches not immediately after system login. So how can this splash screen be turned off? Aside -vgui option.

Also now Steam exits with splash screen and delay, so I think it affects Windows shutdown time.

The Steam Client’s been using CEF for years.

Right now, that command is your best option.

Look noone will tell you to use delayed startup on whatever app here.
sense this is windows that not done with all them apps that startup.
im sure you did not expect such reply, we cant fix what windows is doing.

you can test this with then pc is idle and exit steam and start steam up , its up under 10 sec and dont even do its validating again.

and im sure steam will never stop use checking up procedur First time sfter windows boot up they can reduce it, but remove it, NOT GOING TO HAPPEND, disk and content update is all part of the online client update with game devs patch and such.

exit a app , will not be removed, even that is well know by programmers and not so easy to stop things running, steam actual catchup with telling steam is shutdown now, many have seen cloud still sync and waiting for its being done.

im sure you have seen this if you are a experience steam user. ( they might optimized it, but i doubt it will be removed. )

we other has seen steam not responding to things down in that road , it was seen as crashed steam, and if you was fast enough you end task, i bet its here steam could see a steam issue with things dont work as it should.

be happy someone will reply you all this crap, because steam support dont write here.
and if they do , then all think steam should do it in all post, not going to happend.

make steam ticket, nothing we can do as user here.
im not even sure suggestion and idea can be used here, but could be seen as that.

10 to 40 seconds to start up Steam?

It takes me 1-2 seconds to start up Steam after I've shut down the program.
Do you have your Steam client on a slow harddrive?

No, that's NVMe, but the machine is not top tier (i5-8300H with capped frequency, 16 GiB DDR4 2667MHz). Also it shows black screen within like 10 sec when first opening from systray. On another PC with 5950X, Samsung NVMe PCI-E 4.0 and so on Steam works acceptable but not without small lags.

Well, Steam can do all of this in background as it was previously before this CEF update (yeah I know Steam used that framework before, but now it's entirely on it). There was a small window like "connecting to account..." but it disappeared quickly and didn't steal focus.

Seems like I have to remove Steam from system startup sequence. I'm sure -vgui option will not stand for long and disabling client updates will broke functionality at some time.

It’s always been all CEF. It’s not using significantly more or less.

The Win7/8 discontinuing has nothing to do with the new update.

Muppet could be on to something try small mode, that will be seen as just a game launcher with no access to all them service, that dont behaive as they should sense they go win10/11 looking feel like thta build is now main steam standard for pc marked, it might work then its off in small mode, i dont think steam achivement is even working because you cant see them.

I tried read up in the past what small mode could, never found it or its burid in the past post, and sense i did not use small mode ever other then flipflop to see it,
maybe other know more what and consequence for use it is.

My point was more sure you get them you just dont see it or track with show and tell, but now it could be relevant to past win 7/8 OS as minimum client laucher for past game then other service will not work, not sure if steam will even work or just in small mode to old pc and OS, or it get the knife as we say today.

And as bee point out who know what OS ppl have here in the first place, not the first time that has been a issue before.

If this is again one of them past OS issue, you might get cold shoulder, im done with that system, even then i love it in the past.

There is a reason will so many company has done all to terminate them and upgrade pc and its OS over the many years.

ps.
And its here steam might have tried to aviod as long as the could to stop service to past OS, and now they did, im sure its steam choise, no matter what has been said in many years.

I can also say admit you have past OS , so we other can move on and dont waste our time in try fix what could be wrong, and im sure im not the only one with that point of view.

ohh i forgot i think steam actual did re-introduce small mode for just be a game launcher, but does that mean win7 OS can still play old game , i dont know, i doubt it or they should said it, this was made before end of service for win7/8 was posted.

But until then it might work in small mode only.

gl with it.

Man, what "win7/8 discontinuing" does with this thread? I'm using Win10 and not bothered with that.

Okay, let's assume you're right and Steam client window was all on CEF before this update. Can you explain why it wasn't using so much "web helper" processes and memory before and now does and now has slowed performance and lags? This update is just repainting an UI according to your statement?

I don't understand why this thread is derailed from new Steam update problems to "using old OSes and win7 support". I see that there is no solution to my problem described in the first message, so I ask mods to close this thread.

for now, you can use -vgui shortcut option to start steam on windows startup. Make a steam shortcut with -vgui and put it in shell:startup windows folder. But, like you said, we dont know if steam will break the functionality of that. I am using it for now.

Thanks to those who mentioned the -vgui option. I've tracked down where steam is registered to run and modified the arguments so all is quiet again. Pop the following in a file called "Make steam silent again.reg" then double-click and run it to modify the registry (you may want to take a backup first.) The -silent was already there and removing it means you'll see the "logging in" so leave that there.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "Steam"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)/Steam/steam.exe/" -silent -vgui"

and even though I've wrapped that in a code block there's still some odd character translation going on. Those forward slashes should all be double backslashes except the last which should just be one backslash to escape the double quote!

THIS is how questions should be answered ... people helping out other people. Not 'tough, you're screwed' or 'Why does it bother you?' like on countless other threads.

If you don't know an answer, STFU and move on, most times the OP is looking for ideas, not others opinions. Their motives and reasons are their own and should expect to be able to ask respectful questions. Thanks to all that posted the info that led to a solution that works like a charm.
