Why can't I change my notification settings?
Valve, if y'all are trying to make yourselves a better choice than software piracy, you might wanna put some actual effort into it.

I try to turn off the notifications in this application because I barely use it. I don't need more capitalism being beamed at me. But it seems the servers cannot save changes to notification settings... even though I can save any other setting in the application, browse the store, and download software.

It's only the notifications that can't be changed.

So I think I am going to change a different setting, and disable starting Steam when Windows starts. If this piece of software wishes to be purposefully annoying when left alone, I won't leave it alone. I will simply shut it down when not in use, the way we used to do in the old days.

Same here. I have been trying for the past day to change my damn notification settings. How long can these servers really be busy?!

Same here. All I want to do is stop getting notifications about game sales, but every time no matter what it says "Your preferences have not been saved. The Steam servers are busy. Please try again later."

Doing it via the link to the notification settings didn't work for me. Going into the Steam settings (top left client), from in there I could change them.

This seems to have done the trick for me, although already existing notifications didn't go away.
Thanks for sharing; my guess is that something in the new settings isn't configured right.

Same issue. Bump.

There are a ton of issues and bugs and things that don't work at all or don't work right in the new UI. Contact and report them to Official Steam Support so they can add it to the pile of things they have to fix in the new UI disaster. Follow these instructions and use the old UI is a solution you can use to avoid these errors.

Thanks.... No more "this game is on sale"-notifications for me every 5 minutes. lol
Nah.... "every 5 minutes" is a bit exaggerated. It did happen several times per day though, which was more than my desired 0 for this type of notification. ^^

So much for the announcement, stating that:

3 days and i still always get the message that i cannot change my settings... its getting super annoying!

I tried to change the settings pretty much around the clock. Even around 6am once... there is no way the Steam Servers can be this overworked for 3 days....

Topics from 6 weeks ago until today on the beta forums prove the developers ignored the beta branch. Issues reported during the beta are still present in the current public version.

Do it via the steam settings in the steam client.

I think the other page has the wrong server request so it thinks the server is not responding aka busy, but in reality its a wrong "link"
