Font size fail [SOLVED (FOR NOW)]
42 inch 4k monitor, old eyes (same age as me!), sitting away from screen, text is unreadably small, no way of adjusting it.

For this reason alone I really hate the UI "upgrade" and would revert in a second if that were possible.

Client ignores KDE global screen magnification settings (and I don't want to use it anyway because all other apps I run are fine as is and messed up by using it.)

Is it so hard to provide a zoom setting or a font size setting?

Failing that, is there a way to tweak the font size with a command switch or config file?

Also using KDE, also bothered by font size, not so old eyes.

@TheOldLegend wrote in another post:
"Right-click on steam shortcut, click on Properties, go to target and paste this at the end:

-vgui

It should be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -vgui

Click on Apply, restart the client and u're done :)"

I tested it and it works.
@PoohPus thanks for the suggestion. I'm on linux KDE, though I can still add cmdline arguments via the icon properties. This seems to restore the classic interface? At least the fonts are readable in the STORE section again!

An actual font size setting would still be great, but I'll go with this for now.
the -vgui argument solved it and other issues for me too.

I couldn't type { ~~ ã õ á é ê } and now I can.
Thanks.
I agree the font is too small with the new UI "upgrade"
Agreed! I have to lean in towards my computer just to read anything without my eyes straining. I shouldn't have to nearly have my nose to the screen just to clearly see anything. Even weirder though is that the font size on m partner's PC seems mostly unaffected by these changes. You wouldn't think it'd be too hard for them to allow us to change the font sizes. It's basic accessibility.

I'm struggling to think of another well-used program that doesn't provide a font size setting, even if it's by altering some line in a config file. I kept staring at the "interface" tab in settings, thinking I missed it somehow. Don't they use Chromium to render the GUI? Pretty sure there's a font setting in there somewhere!
It's been a year, took another crack at this and... SUCCESS! (for now anyway).

I followed instructions on some forum, edited the steam starter script ( /usr/bin/steam on my box )

> sudo vi `which steam`

I added -forcedesktopscaling=1.5 so it now reads

> exec /usr/lib/steam/steam -forcedesktopscaling=1.5 "$@"

And in steam: settings -> interface -> scale text and icons.. -> set to "on"

Restart steam, and adjust the "1.5" to higher numbers for bigger UI or lower for smaller, restarting each time.

Guess this may be well known, but I started this thread so thought I should end it with a positive.

Just hope this option / solution doesn't evaporate.
