Why is steam support not granting refunds that meet their requirements and are required by Australian Law?
So recently I applied to refund the first 5 FNaF games, I bought them in December 2020 and haven’t played any of them for more than an hour and none of them function as they were advertised, and they all crash instantly upon start up. Yet when I apply for the refund, I am denied! Despite the fact that I have enquired into why this is the case. I have been told that they are not required to refund the products as they “DO NOT SUFFER FROM ANY MAJOR DEFECTS UNDER AUSTRALIAN LAW” this confuses me as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) states that they cannot take away the right to a refund. Any one who has a similar issue? Or anyone who can help?
Thanks sincerely,
KV
(P.S. I am expecting a ban for coming out of the dark on the topic of poor customer service and violations of ACCC laws and rights.)

Less than 2 hours playtime AND owned for less than 2 weeks... Both requirements must be met.

Also, the consumer laws apply to products that do not function at all... For anyone... And I'm pretty sure a large portion of consumers with those games are playing them without issue.

So yeah, no refunds.

For that the game must be definitely defective and considering the high acclaim they all have, it's hard to prove for you that any of those is fundamentally defective.

Sounds more lke an issue with your machine than with the game(s) itself.

after a year you revoke your right to refund the game on Steam... you should've tried them 3 years ago to test their performance.

After many reinstallation attempts they still don’t work, my machine was recently updated in terms of software and hardware and has been working fine for every other title I own. I can’t think of any reason why I am not allowed a refund on a game that is broken beyond repair? Thanks greatly for your help tho. I’ll take it up with steam and see where it goes. But I truly am grateful to you lot. Thanks!

Because the games are not broken. You encounter an issue that can be fixed. Why not focus on that?

I’ve checked through the game files and have found that there are slight defects compared to what there should be. Even after reinstalling the games they are still there. I can’t think of why the game files would be broken even after reinstalling them many times

What do you mean? The "one file failed to validate"?

Important:
One or more files may fail to verify.
This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

Broken or not, you are way outside the 14days the refund policy state.

You best bet for help would not be the forum for said games.

Regardless your advice is quite helpful, but as I said, looking into it I find defects repeatedly. Any other ideas on either side of the topic? Perhaps selling their cd keys on another platform?

Can I ask a favour? How popular are the games right now? Because I may consider selling the cd keys on a third party site. If selling the keys is the best option to get my money back where would you recommend?

You have no keys to sell.

Keys are one time use only and tied to the account they are activated on.

Is there any way to sell the games on?
Cathulhu Jun 16, 2023 @ 12:58am
No, those are permanently tied to your account and can not be sold, traded, transferred or gifted. They will remain forever on your account. Which can not be sold, transferred, gifted or traded.

No. Steam games stay on the account that owns them.
