How to roll back the Steam client?
Hi, the new Steam client is barely useable, clicking on anything barely works how do I get rid of this broken buggy thing???

From another thread, create a new shortcut on your desktop and use

"C:\<path_to_steam>\steam.exe" -vgui

This gets you back to the old UI for now.

Maybe a reinstall? If you have games installed, I might rename the game folder and move it to a folder higher in the folder tree.
- Uninstall Steam
- Reboot
- Reinstall Steam
- Move the game folder back
- Start Steam.

See if that helps?

Life saver (at least for now). My steam was unmovable, half the buttons didn't respond, and the menus were popping up off the screen. Aesthetics aside (which I find too bright and distracting), it just wasn't functional.

Not quite what I asked for but the same effect, and most likely safer. Thank you :).

I went digging in the registry as well to change this on windows start up as well, for anyone else who forgot their windows-foo too look for steam here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

Edit: This doesn't work, Steam update will overwrite it. Instead, disable "Run steam when my computer starts" in settings > interface, and make a -vgui shortcut in:
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Steam
/edit

And if you want to edit the start menu shortcut:
%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

It would be nice if windows let us set default arguments on applications, so I wouldn't have to worry about where it was called from. Oh well.

the -vgui shortcut to old gui has saved my eyes from severe strain. Thank you guys! <3

Thank you so much for the -vgui shortcut! I'm now back on the previous UI again, which is way more functional than whatever broken mess of a new UI I was just looking at.

This is great, thanks. Took the new gui from using 1 gig of memory back down to 100Mbs. Friends list still uses a massive amount on it's own in the new version, but at least the main window isn't wasting as much.
