SOLVED: Steam, let us disable the Friends autostart!

I don't use it. I don't need it popping up automatically every time I start the damned client. We used to be able to kill it - that's gone now, it seems - but I want that back.

looks like my solution only works for some of you. The only thing I can think of now is to make sure you do a complete exit with steam, not just by clicking the "x" on the top right corner, after making any changes.

If it doesn't work then let's hope valve comes up with a better update next time.

I fixed it by enabling the option, click sign in, close the window, exit Steam, reopen Steam, you should be online and the window doesn't pop up. Then disable the option, go offline, close the window, restart Steam and it should stay closed.

One addition: go back online from the steam menu after last restart

This arcane ritual has somehow exorcised the autostarting friends/chat client. Can I get an amen?

I don't want to "not sign in." I don't want the G-D chat window to open at all. We used to be able to stop that. Now we can't.

I just found this forum for this very reason. New update is bad. I do not want the chat/friends window opening every time I start the Steam client. The option to disable it is gone. This is a nuisance.

It's a stupid bug, yeah. It didn't pop up at first, but just now I restarted the client and my offline friends list window this time did pop up. restarting the client again had the same result.

I don't sign into the friends list on purpose, there is no reason the window should pop up.

I'm sure buying more games on GOG and Epic than ever before and I don't see this changing my mind any.

If I'm forced to be using a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ store that uses up too much PC resources, I might as well get the best deal and pick and choose from Epic/GOG/humble. I used to use steam exclusively for its convenience and familiarity, but that dog has now been shot dead.

Try this - enable (yes ENABLE) the auto sign-in first, exit steam, then open steam to disable it again. I encountered this issue after the update too, doing this did the trick for me. Hope this helps.

Didn't work for me. But as I siad, initially I didn't run into this either.
