EDIT: Have you tried this? Oh and thanks for extremely fast response.
i have the old xbox 360 connected to my pc monitor using a vga cable. with the xbox slim you can get the sound and picture from a single hdmi cable. With my old xbox im using a vga cable for the picture then running separate audio cables for the sound.
Could I send you pics somehow so you know better what I have? Because I'd be hopeless explaining and plugging and unplugging these things takes 15 minutes and my back doesn't like it.

1 single vga cable from the back of the xbox to the pc screen, it has a split for 1x audio jack in and 2x jack out. (the extra audio is if you want to plug into a stereo system or pc speakers/headphones)
I have a single audio in for speakers or i plug in my headphones and use turtle beach headphones plus chat cable into the game pad.
Cable from pc to xbox.
Cable from speakers or headphones into the cable.
