"Failed to load steam.dll"

whenever i try to start up steam, it updates and then a message pops up saying:

Steam-Fatal Error
failed to load steam.dll

please help me. thank you.

Go to C:\Windows and search for any files named "filesystem_steam.dll" or "steam.dll". Delete them. Launch Steam and it should rebuild.

Haha great the same thing just happened to me, all of my saved data is deleted in addition on Final Fantasy VII. I don't get it. There's GOT to be a solid solution but nobody can find one yet.

Not only do I get that message but in some cases it says "failed to poke open firewall". Anyone else get this? Never happened before! I also tried installing steam on my parents computer under my account and it worked so its just my laptop :(
