Sudden shutdowns, weird issue with Japanese IME, and apostrophes on English IME

For some reason, Steam randomly shuts down after some time. I don't know what's happened, as this didn't seem to be an issue until several days ago.

Also, recently, Steam decided to default the Japanese IME to Hiragana input. Even if I switch it to Direct Input, it just switches back to Hiragana the moment I tab out of Steam. This issue does not exist with any of my other programs.

Also, when I switch to English IME, there's this weird thing where apostrophes won't appear until I type something after them.

For example, if I type '-', it sends '-.
The second apostrophe just doesn't appear until I press some other button like enter. This, however, is not an issue with the Japanese IME.

How do I make Steam default to Direct Input for Japanese, and what's the issue with Steam suddenly closing itself every few hours?

This issue is seriously messing with my gaming ever since the last update.
When ever I select another window on my desktop and come back to Steam, IME input automatically switches to Japanese.
This actually cause some of my games to crush, and make some game like Sanctum 2 unplayable.
This is totally Steam's issue and not the game itself, to please fix this quick!!

Same problem here.
It's changing not only on tabbing out.
Change page in steam browser - here. have some kana
Hover the cursor over the upper buttons (without even clicking) - here, have some more kana.

And one related issue - SteamApps (don't know which exatcly, but Dota2 and Teleglitch for sure, so it's steam basically, I suppose) insist on adding English to my language list.
I don't need English (as I use Direct Input from Japanese IME for latin chars) so I have to remove it all the time. All these apps work with Direct Imput Latin Chars perfectly fine btw so it's not connected with their functionality.

These two issues are quite annoying. Very annoying.

Steam must stop assuming the language/input method I presumably need, and use the one that I personally chose myself as THAT is what I actually need.

The same issue here too! I hate this switching to hiragana every time I push Shift-Tab!!! It annoys soooo much!

The switching to Kana has been fixed apparently )
But the addition of English to the list of languages persists.
